When is the Portland beach road that was dug up by SSE 18 months going to revert to its previous smooth ride please??
Hi Richard, we’re aware that the road reinstatement after the SSE work isn’t quite up to standard and we’re liaising with the company about it. We have our own plans to resurface from Ham Roundabout (sailing academy) to Victoria Square later this year.
I am unable to identify the council department responsible for the condition of the C13 North of the Iwerne Minster / Tower Hill junction. So:-
Re:the C13 repairs.
When the contractor skimmed the serious undulations he left in the original repairs, he exposed the cement-bound base layer. This is now breaking up in places and forming potholes that are rapidly increasing in size and need urgent attention.
Whilst there it would be opportunistic to remove the remaining large undulations in the other ‘repairs’ along the C13.
The condition the road was left in shows poor management of unskilled labour. The contractor should have been called back immediately he finished. Where were DCC management?
When are you coming down to Cross Way in Christchurch?
The road surface is diabolical!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Michael, Christchurch is now covered by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, you can report road issues to them online: https://online.bournemouth.gov.uk/services/pothole/
Do you ever a series of such projects in the eastern part of the county?
It’s probably not relevant but the road outside our house hasn’t been swept this year.
Hi Denis, these are just our road surfacing schemes for May. I understand we’ve got work scheduled for New Road, West Parley, and Ringwood Road later this year, and our footway sealing programme is mainly in the east of the county.
Our repair programmes are put together using information from regular inspections and survey data, with damage graded and repairs prioritised across the council area (which covers 2,300 miles of road). As well as prioritising repairs, we also have to focus on the roads that carry the majority of the vehicles and are the essential links to communities and businesses.
Is Ferndown forgotten in all this road sealing work ? Are we too far from Dorchester to be remembered?
Hi John, our repair programmes are put together using information from regular inspections and survey data, with damage graded and repairs prioritised across the council area (which covers 2,300 miles of road). As well as prioritising repairs, we also have to focus on the roads that carry the majority of the vehicles and are the essential links to communities and businesses.
Our footway sealing programme this year is mainly in the east of the county, including Ferndown.

What is the expected life of these road surfaces, and how many miles do you plan for each year?
Hi Roger, that’s actually a very tricky combination of questions – there are so many variables.
The life of a resurfaced road depends on the underlying condition of the road, plus the volume of traffic it sees and the weather that gets thrown at it – it can be as little as six years or over 20 years
Again the amount of road we resurface varies depending on the funding we receive, and how we decide to allocate the money to different road treatments based on the needs of our road network. This year we’ll be resurfacing around 30 miles of road.
Please can you tell us when resurfacing work on the A357 through Stalbridge is going to take place. It’s all been marked up, together with adjoining roads.
And who do we contact re levels? Our outflow across/ level with the pavement now has a reverse camber – not very useful – since the road level has risen so much since the pavements were installed…
Thank you.
.
Hi Judith, our resurfacing work in Stalbridge is scheduled for 12 June to 17 June. The best thing is to report the issues you’re having using our online form, this will ensure it gets to the right person: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roads-highways-maintenance/roads-highways-and-maintenance.aspx?folderIds=5543,6301
Will we be able to drive out of our property opposite Dikes supermarket in Ring Street?
Hi Lynne, we try to maintain access to properties but there will be short periods of time where you may have to wait while we finish a task and ensure the site is safe for you to drive through. The chaps on site will normally do what they can to help.
Can you please tell me where the closure details are for Horton Road to Ashley Heath R/B. From which section if Horton Road? Some or all of it? Dates 3/6 to 31/7. I assume this is a tiered closure, section by section? What are the sections ?
Hi Mike, this is included as part of our premium surface dressing programme and we’re currently finalising dates and roadspace with our contractor. The only details I have at the moment is that it is from Three Legged Cross to Ashley Heath and it will be done towards the end of June. As soon as the roadspace is booked it will appear on the roadworks map: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/travel/travel-dorset/roadworks-closures-and-events-map.aspx
We’ll also publish the dates online when they have been confirmed.
Are any road repairs scheduled for the road from Netherbury Square to Watford Road? As far as i am aware, the road has not properly been attended to in the last 20+years. It has been patched very badly and often without success several times, a sticking plaster would be as effective. The detritus accummulated from unmaintained property walls, where sapling trees have been allowed to grow -some owned by Magna Housing causes blocked drains etc. This is the only road not attended to in Netherbury but as we are not on the school bus route I assume this is not a priority. Your reply would be of interest please.
Hi thanks for the improved road surface through Sherborne. Do the traffic lights need re setting at Mudford Road ?
The traffic coming down Mudford Road is building up but the lights stay on Red even when theres no traffic coming though from the A30 or Sherborne Town ? We had to wait for 10 mins and 3 light changes before lights changed for us to procced
Hi Vanessa, thanks for getting in touch, I’ve passed your comment on to the team to look into any possible fault with the lights. You can report road issues like this using our online form: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-other-highways-issue
Hi, have I read the closures lists correctly? Melbury Abbas C13 is closed until the end of May and the nearby Zig Zag hill is also closed!
Hi Phillip, yes that’s correct. The decision wasn’t taken lightly but it was decided to keep the C13 closed while Zig Zag Hill is resurfaced. You can read more about it here: https://news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/2019/05/15/resurfacing-zig-zag-hill/
A357 junction with A3030, when is this open during daytime again?
Hi Ruth, the junction is open but from tomorrow we are working on the A357 towards Warr Bridge, so you will only be able to turn right from the A3030 onto the A357.
Thank you, we only have to make a turn at this junction, so very useful to know it is now available.
Will it be possible to travel from Sturminster Newton to Stock via the A357 on Thursday 30 May (I take it the road is closed other side of Lydlinch Common junction)? Will the A357 along that route be closed on any dates the following week?
Hi Carolyn, that should be fine, from today we’re working from the A357/A3030 junction towards Warr Bridge. To help you plan your journey, you may want to take a long at our roadworks map: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/travel/travel-dorset/roadworks-closures-and-events-map.aspx
