The results are in. See the headlines from the very first Dorset Council elections held on 2 May.

Dorset went to the polls on 2 May to elect the first representatives of the new Dorset Council. Local town and parish council elections were also held on the same day.
Votes for Dorset Council were counted on Friday 3 May. Votes for the town and parish councils were counted on Saturday 4 May.

The overall turn-out was 37.9%.
Who is in control of Dorset Council?
The Conservatives took the majority of the votes and as such is the first party to take control of Dorset Council.
What’s the make up of the new council?
There will be councillors representing four political parties and in addition there are four independent councillors on Dorset Council. The numbers are as follows:
- 43 Conservatives
- 29 Liberal Democrats
- 2 Labour
- 4 Greens
- 4 Independent
No UKIP councillors have been elected.
There are 27 women on the new council and 55 men. Women therefore make up 33 per cent of the new council.
Out of the 82 seats up for grabs, 25 are new councillors – they were not members of the Shadow Dorset Council previously. 57 seats have been taken by members who have previously served as a councillor in Dorset.
