Road closure for major works

The A357 will be closed at Durweston – between the village and the A350 – from 22 June for four weeks while the road and it’s flood arches are demolished and new culvert structures installed.

A diversion route will be signposted along the A350.

  1. Verwood seems to be generally ignored although many of its roads look in need of surface dressing.

    1. Hi David, with over 2,300 miles of road to maintain we use annual road inspections and surveys to assess road condition based on the different types of damage (cracking, potholes, patching & subsidence) and grade each road so work can be prioritised across the whole of our network.
Sorry that there doesn’t seem to be any planned maintenance scheduled for the Verwood area at the moment. In the meantime you can report road damage online: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-a-pothole

    2. Why for the love of God do you put the road sign notices at points along the road where its virtually impossible to fully read, or even see on approach?

      1. Hi Karen, we normally try to put signs in the best locations for visibility etc If you know which road this sign was on, I can pass the details to the supervisor for him to look into the positioning and to offer any advice to the guys on site.

    3. Good morning. When is Albert road, Corfe Mullen going to be done. It’s no good just patching up with the volume of traffic that cut through to Broadstone the road is becoming dangerous. In one area the dip down is getting worse and Tarmac is lifting badly.

      1. Hi Elaine, good news – we’re due to surface Albert Road in early September.

  2. What’s happening to the Westwey/Granby roundabout at Weymouth? Work seems to have been abandoned with a big yellow pipe at the side of the road. The information boards have disappeared.

    1. Hi Georgina, SGN has informed us that the ground conditions past the pedestrian crossing on Weymouth Way have not been favourable and they are looking to start with a new excavation method, which requires a new TM layout.

We understand SGN are still in discussions with contractors to get the road lanes safely narrowed for works to resume.

You can contact SGN online: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/contact/sgn-gas.aspx

  3. could you please tell me if there will be access to the public car park off station road stalbridge via Jarvis way to station road on 19th june.thanks.

    1. Hi Clive, you’ll be able to access the car park before 9am and after 4pm, sorry for the inconvenience.

  4. when are the holes in Cedar Drive Wimborne likely to be filled in the white marks around have nearly disappeared

    1. Hi Frank, the good news is that if the road has been marked up then we have it on our list for repair. We make every effort to repair the majority of potholes within 28 days.

  5. Good morning I have a question , I live in Stalbridge and the question is why are there no proper signs in reference to the A357 being closed we are still getting arctics coming into the village getting to the Waterlake road then spinning round up the curbs displacing them and going back up the road . The next thing will be closing the road so you can repair the curbs . A better signage would help matters I feel to stop these Lorraine’s trying to short cut the system

    1. Hi Mike, there are multiple signs out advising drivers that the road is closed. Unfortunately, this is the reality of what we face for most of our roadworks – drivers deciding that those signs couldn’t possibly apply to them, and they’ll be able to get through.
I’ll pass your concerns on to the site supervisor for him to double check the signage is still in place.

  6. Goulds Hill was still closed at 5.15pm today (8 July). Is the above info accurate i.e. Overnight lights but road open?
