Celebrating Care Day 2020

Today, Friday 21 February, is #CareDay20. A global celebration of Children and Young People with care experience.

Dorset Council is reimagining our services through partnering with Coram Voice to deliver the “New Belongings” programme.Care Day 2020

Throughout the year, this partnership will develop a model for improving support for care leavers by working with the people with the best knowledge – care leavers. This will be based on engagement and involvement of young people as experts in their own experience.

As part of this work surveys will be used alongside a self-assessment tool to provide a baseline and inform action planning in a coproduction model with care experienced young people.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help said:

“This is a great opportunity for Dorset. We’re really proud to be one of only eight local authorities across England to be selected to work on this project.

“It’s so important that we work closely with our care experienced young people to make sure they have the right pathways into being independent, further education and employment opportunities.”

Dorset Council will work with existing care leaver forums or new groups of young people across the county to develop action plans based on care leavers’ priorities. Our care leaver groups will be supported to review and challenge the progress of the plans.
