Dorset Council has received a funding grant of £299,159 from the Department for Transport for supporting bus services in the County in 2020/21.
The grant is part of the Better Deal for Bus Users funding package that was announced by the government last Autumn.
Due to Covid19, the Council has not finalised the details of how it will spend the funding. We intend to allocate some towards restoring lost services, some to improving existing services, and some to supporting new bus services/extensions to current services. The actual funding allocations and uses will be decided in due course.
Lets have the West Moors yellow bus service back please.
Could the residents of Wool be better served please.
I take it that this doesn’t apply to Sherborne. We have next to nothing in the way of buses here. What services we have are subsidised by Somerset Council. The few buses that we have, are old & clapped out, infrequent & usually full when they turn up. I am always amazed, at the number of new, frequent buses that run in the Dorchester/Weymouth area. Maybe we live in a different County. Although our council tax, does go to Dorchester.
Hi Derek – we will look at the whole of Dorset with this fund.
Please consider the lost 73 service as in Toller Porcorum we have no shop
And no public transport at all. We are desperate for the service to come back and then could support local business instead of buying online
Please restore the 57 bus which ran around Sherborne into Yeovil. This was a lifeline for the elderly and young alike.
If it is restored, please do not let First Bus run it. That company charges £7.50 return on the 58 and X10 while South West Coaches charges just £5 return for the same journey.
Funding for lost bus services. At last we may see the daily 210 service from Litton Cheney restored to Bridport.
How do we re- establish a lost service
We will be looking at areas that have the most need. We will publish more information about how residents can get involved shortly.
There are many elderly people living in the St Ives, St Leonards and Ashley Heath areas. A number of these are either no longer able, or permitted, to drive, or too scared to do so. Improvements to Morebus 38 would therefore be most welcome. Increased synchronisation with the X3 service to Bournemouth Hospital is probably the most important. Thank you, Council, for giving me this easy way to express my opinion. It is appreciated.
I have forwarded your comment to my colleague in Dorset Travel and will do my best to get Morebus to look at their timetable.
In addition you may contact your local Parish Office and leave details of how i can discuss other ways in which as your local ward Councillor i can help.
a safer bus stop at organford old post office would be nice very dangerous stop .
standing on the road with flying past at 50/60 mph
Sherborne really does need an affordable bus service. A 15 minute journey of 5 miles into Yeovil costs a whopping £5. To go by car costs £1-2. Parking in Yeovil is free or cheap. The buses themselves aren’t great, but at least we have them.
The high cost impacts young people and people who are unable to drive or afford cars in a way that is completely unfair. It is also crazy in terms of the impact on the planet. So many cars whizz along the A30 with one or two people in them.
There is currently no incentive to use the bus. The only people who use them are those who absolutely have to – why should they be further disadvantaged? This seems discriminatory.
What about restoring a bus service to Yetminster and the surrounding villages? There are a number of elderly residents who would appreciate a bus to Yeovil or Sherborne – many do not have any form of transport.
At least they have a train station, my village has no public transport at all
In Sherborne we really do require the reinstatement of the No.57 bus service that used to serve the town. Many residence from the west side of town have suffered extreme difficulty in accessing the only two medical practices which are in the the east and north-east side of the town. Pensioners are having to spend large amounts of their income on taxis whereas the regular bus service used to serve them well. It was taken off by First Bus in February 2018 and in the weeks previous to it ceasing the drivers on the service deliberately went off route to avoid picking up passengers such that low passenger numbers were recorded. A protest meeting at the time was attended by over 100 residents and both the Town Council and West Dorset District Council along with the Sherborne Transport Action Group and the Patient Participation Group (from the two local medical practices) were represented at the first and subsequent meetings, but to no avail as the service was never reinstated.
we need our bus service restored .one of the reasons people in our village voted for Chris Loder was because he was going to do something about the buses , we had a meting in the rose and crown Bradford Abbas ,a good turn out ,but we still have no buses running through the villages from Sherborn to Yeovil . there a lot of elderly people living out in the villages that are stuck for transport and need a bus service.
Affordable bus serving Yetminster, Thornford, Bradford Abbas, Stoford, Sherborne and Yeovil would be a lifeline to many residents.
