Additional safety measures

Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.

  • single person vehicle movements both to and from site
  • maintaining current social distancing requirements at all times
  • daily toolbox talks to share the latest safe working guidance and COVID-19 updates
  • daily health screening involving temperature checks and general well-being
  • no high-risk workers on site
  • revised working practices to reduce the number of staff on site while still maintaining health and safety standards when working on the highway
  • changes to site welfare, including additional toilet facilities and hygiene provision

Please be mindful of how you speak to our workforce, they are working within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.

  1. When will you be coming to Verwood? Otter Close is in a dreadful state…

  2. Premium Surface Dressing ~ A3066 Sea Road North Bridport.
The workmanship and surface dressing applied is a disgrace. Spray Tar and Chip would have been a better low tech finish. There are dangerous sunken drains, sunken manhole covers with no edge finish.
How long before a cyclist or motor cyclist comes a cropper from this very low quality attempt to resurface. This is not a “Premium Dressing” and the contractors and council official responsible for signing this off needs to be held to account.

  3. Could do with some attention to Shaftesbury High Street. A number of places where the surface is breaking up!

  4. What about the 15 month old clanging drain cover In Melbury Abbas driving us mad.

  5. Is South Road in Swanage going to be finished? Only part of it was resurfaced before lockdown started.

  6. Still no indication of a date for re surfacing hembury Road Askerswell!!

  7. Can you please tell me who is responsible for cutting the hedge bushes at the top of Saffron Drive where it meets Cornflower Drive.

Some of the bushes seem to get cut but others are left and I don’t understand why.

I watched an old man pushing his wife in a wheelchair recently and the footpath is so overgrown he couldn’t get through. There are several parked cars on the bend there at the top of Saffron that you have to take your life in your hands to walk down the roadway past the bushes.

PLEASE can something be done about this before there is a major accident and someone gets hurt.

  8. This is fine for the areas listed, however what about the condition of the road from Glue Hill Sturminster Newton to Hazelbury Bryan,Back Lane at Kingston has not been touched for years and any repairs have lasted for a couple of days caused by the poor workmanship of the repair team. We are paying in excess of £2500 a year to the council to live in Dorset,as a resident of Kingston.I would request that some priority is given for this area.Any request from Pauline Batstone, our elected representative and Parish Council fall on deaf ears

  9. When are you planning to resurface with tarmac Sandford Woods estate in Sandford, as it has not been done properly for 40 years. It has had 1 re gritting on tar in that time causing immeasurable repercussions by the grit being washed down the drainage system causing mass flooding in Filleul Road everytime it rains hard. The A351 is still a nightmare to use in the holiday season dispite covid 19 due to the traffic load. When are we getting a bypass as promised years ago.

  10. Hi Council,

Thanks for the notification as well as the good job done on the maintenance on the road. Great to hear about the daily screening safety measures put in place to help us all.
    Kudos to you. Philip

  11. Road works were done on potholes along Bournemouth Road Blandford St. Mary 2 weeks ago and the road was left in a worse state than before. There are lumps and bumps everywhere and masses of loose clippings left behind. It really is a disgrace.

  12. Queens Rd and Dennis Rd Corfe mullen were resurfaced to a good standard between 18th – 21st Sept .. However does nobody check the standards and safety, post resurfacing work? Bollards and signage left Strewn about site and not removed until Today Oct 2nd .. A smashed by contractors machinery during works, very dangerously collapsed BT service manhole cover on pavement outside residential properties in Dennis Rd was left in situ and required reporting by a local concerned resident to Dorset Highway’s via website EIGHT DAYS after contractors left site .. for urgent action. Quality and safety control seems very unorganised regarding completed works snagging and assessments??

  13. Hello Council,
Thanks for the good work doen.
When is South Road at Swanage being completed? I am asking because I think this is long overdue.

    1. Hi C. G. Richmond, unfortunately it doesn’t look like South Road is currently programmed for a surface treatment – you can report the condition of the road and other issues to us using our online form: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roads-highways-maintenance/report-a-problem-on-the-road-or-pavement.aspx This report will be passed on to our community highway officer who will assess the road for any ‘actionable defects’ that need repair, and recommend it for any further action if necessary.

      1. We pay 5 star council tax money on top of fuel duty vehicle tax and parking charges to use dangerous substandard roads and workmanship provided by a supposedly by competent Dorset county council.
They are taking our hard earned money and taking us for fools.
