Approval of the planning application from Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (DCH)

Cllr Sherry Jespersen, chairman of Northern Area Planning Committee, said;

Cllr Sherry Jespersen

“I can confirm that after careful consideration, the planning

application from Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (DCH) to build a multi storey car park with other improvements to the internal site road has been approved by the Northern Area Planning Committee today.

“Committee members recognise how significant this decision is for the hospital, its patients, visitors and employees, as well as the impact it will have on local residents. The decision to support DCH’s application was granted after much discussion by all members, showing the democratic process in action.

“We voted to approve the application, deciding that the harm to local heritage and landscape is significantly outweighed by the social and economic benefits of the proposed car parks at Dorchester County Hospital.

“Dorset Council planning officers tested this application against national and local planning regulations, and I would like to thank them for their balanced and rigorous work.

“I’d also like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation process for this important development for the county town.”

  1. I should like to say a big Thank You to those who decided to pass the application for a multi-storey car park at DCH.
    I have experienced the stress of trying to park in time for an appointment, both with and without my late husband, and I can assure you that it is considerable.

  2. Has any thought been given to forming a car park over the railway line instead?

    A very large area of otherwise unused space could be enclosed and made into a useful car park, without seriously affecting the hospital site, which is always pretty busy

    A car park in this location could help serve the town as well, where there is a distinct shortage of available parking at times, which will be seriously exacerbated if the proposed developments are carried out, bringing ever more occupants to the town

  3. Good idea. Does this mean there would be more disabled spaces near the hospital, as it is a nightmare at the moment?

  4. Lets hope this will go ahead soon, it’s so stressful trying to find a space when you have an appointment when you are usually stressed anyway !
