Calling families and young people with SEND – please complete a survey

We are asking families and young people with special educational needs and or a disability to complete a survey about the impact of the pandemic.

SEND Games

The survey has been produced by Ofsted and the results will help the government, Dorset Council and the Dorset Local Area understand what has worked well, what the challenges have been for families and what lessons could be learned.

The survey for parents and carers is available here.

The survey for children and young people with SEND aged 16 – 25 is available here.

Please complete the survey before 30 September.

The survey is being carried out because Dorset Council agreed to participate in Ofsted and CQC’s (Care Quality Commission) programme of interim area SEND visits.

The purpose of these visits is to help local areas understand the impact of the pandemic, identify opportunities for improvement and highlight positive case studies, so they can be learned from. More information is available here.

This visit will take place on 6 -7 October. It won’t result in a grade or judgement, although a summary of key findings will be published. Dorset Council will share those findings on its website and in the Dorset SEND enewsletter, which you can sign-up for here.

What do Ofsted and CQC want to learn from the survey? They want to identify:

  • What has worked well in supporting children & young people with SEND during the pandemic
  • What the key challenges have been for the local area, and what hasn’t worked well
  • What plans the local area has for supporting these children and young people in the future – particularly as some of their needs will have changed as a result of the pandemic.
