Children who needed it most enjoyed a fun ‘Summer in Dorset’ thanks to volunteers, community groups and council workers.
We sent passes to more than 5,000 children, many of them with disabilities or special educational needs, so they could enjoy fun activities like paddle boarding, horse riding and archery. Many of the 140 plus activities were organised by community groups.
One parent said: “As part of Summer in Dorset we had a session of paddle boarding. My children had the most amazing time and our instructor was fantastic. He was fully understanding of my son’s needs and put a bespoke package together for him, which was five hours of pure fun.”
Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, said:
“Summer in Dorset was a great success, especially after a long lockdown period.
“Together with our local partners we offered a wide range of fun activities for children and young people, and I am really grateful all the hard work done by so many volunteers and community groups as well as our council workers, to make these amazing opportunities of events possible across the county.”
We would really appreciate a few minutes of your time to tell us what you thought of Summer in Dorset. It really helps us improve what we do.
