Reprofiling Weymouth beach

Dorset Council in partnership with Weymouth Town Council, are carrying out works to Weymouth’s main town beach next week.

Weymouth beachThis is partly due to the change in beach profile caused by Storm Alex, and as part of routine management to prepare the beach for the winter period.

Heavy plant will be used to adjust profiles and crest level against the sea wall. This is to reduce the risk of overtopping and to manage the undermining risk along the northern end of the beach.

The beach will remain open, but  members of the public are asked to stay a safe distance from all plant.

  1. Historically, the level of the sand was much lower than it currently is. At the dog walking area end of the beach there used to be a drop of about 10 feet from the Esplanade to the sand level – the bottom set of steps at that end have disappeared below sand level. Many other sets of steps and slopes are in a similar state. Will you be taking the levels back down that far?
