The final stage of consultation by Dorset Council for the Purbeck Local Plan starts today (13 November). This is to ensure that the plan is legally sound and compliant with planning laws.
After this consultation all responses received will be sent to the Planning Inspector to consider. She will decide whether the plan can be found legally compliant and sound. If so, Dorset Council Councillors at full council will then take a decision on whether to adopt the local plan.
The Planning Inspector, who is examining the local plan, has stated that she was ‘reasonably satisfied’that, with the Main Modifications, the Purbeck Local Plan would be capable of being found legally compliant and sound.
The proposed Main Modifications are changes to the local plan policies and supporting text that have been discussed during the Local Plan examination and are needed to make sure that the local plan complies with relevant planning laws and the tests for soundness outlined in national planning policy.
When the Inspector and council refer to whether the local plan is ‘sound’, they are referring to those tests in national policy. The council will also be publishing a number of other documents that are connected to proposed Main Modifications as part of the consultation.
The Purbeck Local Plan provides the framework for future planning decisions in Purbeck and sets out strategies for meeting the area’s need for homes, the land need to sustain Purbeck’s economy while conserving its special natural and built environment.
The plan reflects the latest government policy and guidance. It also takes account of evidence relating to the local area that has been gathered over a number of years, and the views of local people expressed through earlier consultations carried out in 2015, 2016, 2018 and in the public hearing sessions held in 2019.
The completed Purbeck Local Plan will inform work on the new Dorset Council Local Plan and provide the planning framework for development in the Purbeck area pending adoption of this new local plan. Consultation on the Dorset Local Plan is scheduled to start in the New Year.
Cllr David Walsh, Dorset Council Portfolio holder for Planning, said:
“The former Purbeck District Council had progressed this plan significantly and we are looking forward to seeing its completion.
“The hard work of everyone concerned in getting this plan to this stage will be very useful for the Dorset Council Local Plan.”
Information on this consultation can be found at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/plpmainmods Responses must be made by 11.45pm on 8 January 2021
Can some one tell me why 470 homes and 65 care homes are being built in Wool when that number was rejected by the local community also after the recent flooding of the proposed area which according to the science is not a one of event either your disregarding local opinion or just plain stupid we know with that amount of houses infrastructure needs to change ie School’s Health care plus when will the first big supermarket be built Wool used to be a village now its being turned into a concrete monstrosity shame on the council for the destruction of small villages like Wool in Dorset .
Dear M Luxton, as far as the flooding issue there are some solutions to this as part of the development plan to alleviate the existing problems. Planning has to balance a number of needs and viewpoints. We look at population projections for at least the next 15 years, where there’s existing transportation and community services alongside local views through neighbourhood plans.
