  • We will collect up to two extra sacks of rubbish beside your bin on your first rubbish collection after Christmas Day
  • We will always collect extra recycling if placed in your own boxes, with glass kept separate. No garden waste collections will take place from Christmas Day until Friday 8 January
  • Household recycling centres are open from 10am to 4pm daily, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

Festive recycling
Many households produce extra waste over Christmas, but much of it can be recycled. You can recycle:

  • Wrapping paper (not foil or glittery paper)
  • Cardboard boxes and recyclable packaging (not polystyrene)
  • Christmas cards and envelopes
  • Cooked and uncooked food, using your food waste bin

Dorset Council does not collect Christmas trees with rubbish or recycling at the kerbside.

  1. Sadly recycling wasn’t collected and these are communal bins as well

i’m surprised the council haven’t got sick and tired of me complaining about this as they have had about 8 “missed collection” notices from me (this is pre covid as well so they can’t use that one)

Can we go back to “East Dorset County Council” as that was a much better service than the much bigger “Dorset Council”

    1. Michael – While we’re sorry to hear about your missed collections, we should point out that your waste services are delivered by the same people and resources now as they were when East Dorset District Council/Dorset County Council were in operation. This problem is more likely to do with other people misusing the bins at your location (contaminated recycling, leaving waste on the floor etc.) which is a common issue in communal premises. If you haven’t done so already, we’d recommend speaking with your housing association (who are responsible for ensuring residents use the facilities correctly) and/or e-mailing our recycling team at wasteteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk. Thank you.

  2. Are these dates right. The days and the dates don’t seem to match for 2021/22.
