Highway repair work starts in Shaftesbury

Work will be getting underway in January to repair the road surface in Shaftesbury High Street.

Starting on Tuesday 19 January, Dorset Highways will start work to repair two areas of block-paving across the road:

  • at the High Street junction with Mustons Lane, and
  • at the Salisbury Street junction with the High Street.

Uneven areas of block paving will be lifted out, the foundations reconstructed, and the bricks cleaned off and re-laid anew.

For the work to be carried out safely, the B3091 High Street will be closed each weekday from 9am to 4pm from 19 January to 22 January. There will be no access for delivery vehicles during these times.

The road will be open as usual during the evenings and at weekends.

Resurfacing works – night work

This work was originally planned as night work but was changed to daytime working to minimise disruption, with a chaperone in system to help pedestrians through the works area.

Unfortunately, over the last two days there have been far too many pedestrians stepping over the tape and walking in the works area – putting themselves and our workforce at risk of injury.

From Wednesday 27 January, resurfacing will revert back to originally planned night working:

  • 7pm Wednesday to 6am Thursday – removal of road surface in Coppice Street (High Street to the football club)
  • 7pm Thursday to 6am Friday – removal of road surface Salisbury Street (High Street to medical centre)
  • 7pm Friday to 6am Saturday – new surface laid Coppice Street/Salisbury Street
  • 7pm Saturday to 6am Sunday – new surface laid Salisbury Street

These works have been funded through the Department for Transport Infrastructure Investment Fund granted earlier this year.

  1. Re Shaftesbury High St works wef 19 Jan, can you confirm the two areas where block-paviors are to be relaid are the parts of the High St known locally as Angel Square and ‘The Narrows’?

Re the works starting 25 Jan, can you clarify that the resurfacing work to the High St is from the town hall to the medical centre entrance in Salisbury Rd and whether or not it includes the relaying of the black paviors immediately outside the town hall.

  2. …that should read ‘…the block paviors outside the town hall.’
