Additional safety measures
Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.
- single person vehicle movements both to and from site
- maintaining current social distancing requirements at all times
- daily toolbox talks to share the latest safe working guidance and COVID-19 updates
- daily health screening involving temperature checks and general well-being
- no high-risk workers on site
- revised working practices to reduce the number of staff on site while still maintaining health and safety standards when working on the highway
- changes to site welfare, including additional toilet facilities and hygiene provision
Please be mindful of how you speak to our workforce, they are working within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.
I was hoping to see Bournemouth Road Blandford St. Mary on the list for road repairs. It was left in a shocking state after ‘repairs’ in February, 10 times worse than it was before. There are huge potholes running for at least 20 yards. Does no one inspect the work done ?
Hi Helen, sorry to hear this. The best thing is to report this damage using our online form: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-a-pothole This will be passed on to the local community highway officer who will assess it for further repair.
When will Allenview Road Wimborne be resurfaces, it is in an atrocity with peeling tarmac and holes all along it’s length
Hi Marilyn, I can see that we are aware of the condition of Allenview Road and it has been recommended for a surface treatment – unfortunately there is no confirmed date for this at the moment.
You cover Wessex Water Works in Upton & Bridport but completely ignore the ones in Shillingstone which mean the A357 is closed and substantial diversions are needed especially for HGV.
Hi Jeremy, apologies for this, unfortunately it was not a set of works that I was aware of.
Our focus in the newsletter is on Dorset Highways programmes of work, with this web page highlighting our most disruptive resurfacing schemes. there is a link on this page to our roadworks map, where all planned roadworks across the Dorset Council area can be found to help give residents an overview of all works taking place on our network.
Kind regards, Kerry
When are going to fix the dreadful road surface at Swyre where it joins the coast road and the many potholes in Hazel Lane Puncknowle
Hi Ron, the best thing is to report this damage using our online form: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-a-pothole

May we have an approximate timing for resurfacing Mill Lane, Chetnole,DT9 6PB?
Hi Gordon, I can see that we are aware of the condition of Mill Lane and it has been recommended for a surface treatment – unfortunately there is no confirmed date for this at the moment.
there seems to be nothing being done in weymouth or portland as per usual, i have been waiting for some yellow lines to be put down in a wyke regis road for well over ten years, it will no doubt only get done when there is a serious accident, i hope not
Hi Stuart, we have recently carried out resurfacing and surface dressing in the Weymouth and Portland area, I’m sorry no roads are on the list for this month.
We assess our road condition through regular inspections and use specialist survey data to identify and prioritise our work, ensuring that the roads most in need of repair are treated (not an easy task when we’re managing round 2,400 miles of road).
With regards to the installation of yellow lines, please contact your local councillor to find out how this is progressing. The Traffic Regulation Order process for this starts with liaison between Dorset Council councillors, the town council and our community highways team.
Thank you for supplying us with this important and interesting information.
Hello – We live at Hampreston, along Ham Lane, Wimborne.
Ham Lane is a busy throughfare for fast moving traffic and over the past month there has been a very large build up of roadside litter. Also on the A31 between Canford Bottom Roundabout and the roundabout leading off to Ringwood.
What plane do you have to clear this rubbish – it is mainly plastic based, extremely untidy and we feel ashamed that our beautiful countryside is spoilt in such a way.
Hi Derek, thanks for getting in touch. You can report litter related issues online to us at: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/bins-recycling-and-litter/street-cleaning/street-cleaning-and-litter-problems.aspx for our waste operatives to investigate.
for 2 years a TEMPORARY ROAD SURFACE sign has been situated on Hembury Road ,Askerswell but to no effect,A few water filled pot holes have occasionally been filled in with poor quality material which rapidly gets washed away. When, if ever, will a decent job be done?
Hi Donald, sorry to hear this. The best thing is to report this issue using our online form: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-a-pothole This will be passed on to the local community highway officer who will assess it for further repair.
The fencing opposite the bottom of my drive and my neighbours drive (220a & 220 Hurn Road) was removed in the summer of 2020, reason only known to you!
It needs replacing as there is traffic noise affecting our properties and also is a road hazard to traffic northbound on the A338 and on this part of Hurn Road, Matchams.
