Boat deck will be demolished

A boat deck on Castle Cove beach will be demolished next week. The deck, which is privately owned, started breaking up in recent storms and is now a hazard.

Portland Harbour Authority, Dorset Council and Quest (a marine contractor) have been working together to safely remove the material of the deck from the shoreline.

Natural England has given permission to carry out the work to this protected marine environment .

Portland Harbour Authority, who is leading this work, and Quest will minimise sediment disturbance which can cause damage to the seagrass.

The work, which is dependent upon weather conditions, is due to start on Monday 1 March and will hopefully be completed by Friday 5 March. Some parts of the beach may be restricted at times to maintain safety.
