We want to hear from young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their parents and carers.

Dorset Council and our partners are determined to work together to transform the way we work with children and young people with special educational needs or a disability (SEND) and their families.

We have a commitment to consultation, partnership working and co-production across every area of our improvement journey. To achieve this, we have jointly created a SEND survey which will give us a good understanding of our families’ experiences of accessing and using our services, and what they would like to see change.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Years, said: “We want to hear from parents, carers and young people to gather your views and experiences of the services and provision in Dorset for children and young people aged 0 – 25 years with additional needs.

“Your feedback is important as it will help us learn which areas are working well, and the areas that could be improved upon. The information you provide will go towards updating the Dorset Special Educational Needs and Disability Strategy and help us to continue our improvement work.”

Elaine Okopski, Participation Co-ordinator for Dorset Parent Carer Council, said: “We are really pleased to have worked with Dorset Council on this survey. It is a great opportunity for all parents, carers and young people with SEND to share their experience of local services, and to have a voice in shaping services and provision locally, so all children and young people with SEND have the best possible outcomes. Please do take part, your voice really matters.”

The survey will be available until 31 March and should take approximately 20 minutes to complete, depending on how much you want to tell us. Click here to complete the survey.

The results will be published on Dorset’s SEND Local Offer webpage (personal details and names will be withheld). If you need a hard copy of the survey, would like it in a different language, or need help completing it then please contact your key worker or email Kim Saint (kim.saint@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk).

Take part to win National Trust Family Memberships

We are offering the chance to win 4x National Trust Family memberships. All you have to do is complete the survey and email a screen shot of the ‘thank you’ page once completed to kim.saint@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.

  1. I would not object to paying council tax rises so much, if certain members were not paid obscenely high salaries. No one in local government should receive more than the prime minister! Some councillors in England are paid several times the amount paid to the prime minister! How is this ridiculous situation allowed? These incredibly greedy fat cats should be held to account with the source and authorisation of their colossal incomes thoroughly investigated. The Daily Express reported one northern councillor being paid in excess of £750,000 p.a.! A campaign should be constituted to stop payment of council tax until no payments to local government personnel exceed that of the prime minister!
