Additional safety measures
Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.
- single person vehicle movements both to and from site
- maintaining current social distancing requirements at all times
- daily toolbox talks to share the latest safe working guidance and COVID-19 updates
- daily health screening involving temperature checks and general well-being
- no high-risk workers on site
- revised working practices to reduce the number of staff on site while still maintaining health and safety standards when working on the highway
- changes to site welfare, including additional toilet facilities and hygiene provision
Please be mindful of how you speak to our workforce, they are working within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.
My wife is very disabled and we have a blue badge for the car, do we have to pay for car parking both in car parks and on parking meters on street in Dorset ? I understand that we have a total of 3 hours but is there any more time allowed at all.
One comment that I do have to make and would like rectified is that there is NEVER any comments on parking meters concerning the parking of disabled people in cars. Why is this and cannot that be put on these parking meters as it is so confusing for the likes of us !!!9
Hi Derek, on-street, a blue badge holder may park for free, subject to some conditions outlined in our information online.
In car parks, there will always be information on the boards regarding blue badge holders, but the general rule of thumb in Dorset is that payment is still required.
Full details on where and how blue badges may be used in Dorset are available online: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/parking/disabled-parking/blue-badges/using-your-blue-badge.aspx
Is there a plan to do repairs along Bournemouth Road Blandford St. Mary ? It was left in a dreadful state after ‘ repairs ‘ in Sept. Vehicles are now travelling in the centre of the road to avoid the many potholes which were left after the so called re surfacing in September. I reported this to the Highways dept. Months ago.
DC were supposed to resurface and repair Linclieth Road and Chalk Pit Lane over a year ago. Have they been removed from the list?
Hi Rod, this was part of our work programme that had to be postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus last year. I believe our micro-surfacing contractor is scheduled to be at these roads at the end of this week.
The entire length of Canford Magna is desperately in need of proper resurfacing, not just patching and top dressing. It has now become quite hazardous for cyclists due to multiple patching and potholes.
Hi John, I believe this is in the BCP Council area. You can report the road damage online to them: https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/Roads-and-transport/Roads-and-transport.aspx
Not too sure on the other sites but the resurfacing job, recently done around Hayes lane near Wimborne, was appalling and has left large drops to ironwork. Is this the standard of job that is being done by the teams at each site ?
