Micro-surfacing is underway on residential roads across Dorset.

Dorset Highways’ contractor Colas Ltd is carrying out the programme of works, which will seal and protect the road from water damage.
Mirco-surfacing is another cost-effective treatment for worn, but not structurally failing, roads. Carrying out this repair now will avoid the need for costly resurfacing or reconstruction works.
The treatment is laid over the top of the old surface and is made up of two layers – one layer to regulate out minor dips and bumps in the road, and the second provides a robust surface course.
Due to the large equipment and number of vehicles used to carry out the work, roads will need to be closed for the treatment to be carried out.
Roads will be closed 7am to 5pm with a locally signed diversion route and a gateman posted at the closure to address any queries.
Location & dates
- Please look for advance notice signs with specific dates and times at the location of the works, dates can change in the case of bad weather
- Vehicles will need to be moved off the road for the work to be carried out
- Please do not drive on the road until the signs and cones have been removed
Finishing works
- Road surfaces will be swept to clear loose stone soon after treatment
- White lines will be replaced around a week after the work
- Any drain covers that are too low following the surfacing will be raised within a month after the work
Work started on 22 March and, weather permitting, will be finished by 28 April. These works are weather dependent and dates may be subject to change, local advance notice signs will be kept updated.

Dorset Highways’ annual road maintenance programme, includes patching, micro-surfacing, surface dressing, in-situ recycling, road preservation and resurfacing treatments.
Using a variety of surface treatments ensures that more of Dorset Council’s roads get repaired with the budget available, compared to using resurfacing alone.
Please use our online form to report road-related issues/damage. This goes directly to the local community highways officer for assessment.
Perhaps this would be a workable solution for Sutton road in Sutton poyntz. Could you please add this road onto your schedule. Thank you.
Hi Tony, the best thing is to report the road damage online so that one of our highway officers can assess it for appropriate repairs: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roads-highways-maintenance/report-a-problem-on-the-road-or-pavement.aspx
Many thanks, Kerry
Great but make sure sewage pipeline is not damaged and goes in to water supply.
Having twice informed you of the dire state of Thornicks lane in Winfrith Newburgh, I hope that this lane will be included in the work schedule planned for Winfrith, week beginning 19th April.
The road surface is a disgrace, particularly at the far end.
This is NOT a private road. Never been touched, I believe, in 34yrs. Don’t waste the opportunity.
I also hope the High Street resurfacing will also include Water Lane.
Residents will be doing this work themselves before long, if not.
Nice to see that Colas Roads were at work in Church Road, Longburton this Tuesday 2nd April for the long awaited resurfacing.
I don’t know if they think they have completed the job, or whether they are coming back, but it looks terrible.
A rough and untidy finish as you might get from an ‘itinerant gang with a load of left over spare tarmac they need to offload in a hurry’.
Guess they’ll have to be back to raise the access covers for the various services ?
We live on a “so called private road” in Ferndown , paying substantial rates for practically no services including road repairs.
If we are lucky we see a road sweeper (for leaf clearance) four times from September through to December.
So the least you could do as a Council is ensure that “the small part of our road that you have chosen NOT TO ADOPT could at least benefit from any left over road material from the roads that you are resurfacing.
We live in Whincroft Drive and the road is always breaking up as you enter and so called repair done.
This road and pavements need a urgent upgrade especially the pavements before someone trips. Lots of residents walk on the side of the road which is a danger to them especially as there is a nasty blind bend.
I would like to add my voice to the previous writer. The finished surface on The Avenue, Sherborne and on Long Street, Sherborne (particularly on the junction with St Swithins, is terrible. It’s patchy and loose with parts of the previous road surface clearly visible. I encourage the council to do a Quality Inspection as soon as possible to ensure we ratepayers are getting a decent job for our money.
While they are repairing Fitzpain Road west parley could they also repair the big hump in Druids Close. We have reported it to Highways and they have replied saying it is not high enough to warrant it being repaired. My Grandson has tripped over on it and I did the other day please can this be rectified as it is also very uncomfortable when you drive over it.
Is it possible to use this on pavements? The pavements both sides of the road in Pine Vale Crescent, Redhill, Bournemouth BH10 are appalling and I feel quite dangerous. They have been dug up and patched up so may times, for an 85 year old and still actively walking are really not safe.
Shockingly bad road treatment. The roads that have been micro-surfaced near me are now worse surfaces than they were before they were treated. And the newly painted lines are all wonky as if done by a drunk. Colas have left loose debris all over the place. The made-up name “micro-surfacing” does not work on me, I can see with my own eyes that this is a thin smear of tarmac, badly and unevenly applied in a rush. Any road surface that relies on cars to drive on it to smooth it out is not a proper job. Dorset Council seem to be increasingly using these inferior surface dressing techniques, it makes me rather angry. I get the impression that DC must have spent most of our council tax money on drugs.
Please please can you urgently put in place repairs to my road Apple Tree Grove Ferndown. I have lived here at no 1 for 21 years and the condition of the road is diabolical. My house is Grade F and I am very fed up with the poor service or lack of it we get here apart from bin collections. There used to be street cleaning but no more. The road has had patches done but that won’t last the whole surface needs replacing
Will we be receiving any notification of exactly when these works will be starting ? As it appears from the site that they were supposed to start this week,
Hi Michael, due to the wet changeable weather recently, our contractor is roughly a week behind schedule. Advance notice boards should go up on site a few days before the work takes place to advise drivers of the dates so vehicles can be moved off the road. Hope this helps.
I see as usual Ferndown is completly ignored & has never seen repairs to some roads & pavements in the 21 years I have lived there
I suggest you look at Queens Road, part of Beaufoys Avenue, Willow Way & Larch Way to name but a few.
The paverments are all uneven around this area, I walk in the road. Pavements are not swept & when the grass verges are cut the grass is never picked up.
Many properties have overhanging trees & bushes adding to the problem. Weeds are also over the pavements causing more mess.
I should appreciate something being done about all
the above problems.
Thank you.
This sort of chipping s should not be used in areas where there are predestrians always walking the footpaths to the shops this could result in injury as heavy vehicles pass very near to the footpaths including enormous farm machinery and army tanks etc
this stretch of road baileys drove wool to the station is most intimidating at the best of times safety should come before cost
Hi T I Dixon, there will be a temporary 20mph speed limit during our work on the A352, and for a short time afterward, for the safety of all road-users.
