A popular local link road near Shaftesbury will be closing for two weeks while it is reconstructed by Dorset Highways.
Coles Lane, which is a popular cut through for local traffic and delivery vehicles travelling between the A30 Sherborne Causeway and Guys Marsh, will be closed along its entire length from Monday 10 May to Friday 19 May.
Due to the type of reconstruction being carried out, the road will remain closed overnight and throughout the weekend.
Dorset Highways contractor Stabilised Pavements Ltd will be carrying out deep in-situ recycling to strengthen the failing road. This process involves simultaneously pulverising the existing carriageway and mixing it with cement to create a hydraulically bound material.
This method is done on site and recycles the existing material of the road back into a strong foundation layer, which will then be surfaced by Hanson Contracting, the highway service’s strategic partner.
Cllr Ray Bryan, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said: “Our engineers work hard to identify the best repair method for the damage evidenced within the carriageway, ensuring an efficient use of funds and a reduction in the raw materials used.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience this work will cause to local workers and residents – please plan ahead and use a suitable alternative route for your journeys while we carry out these crucial repairs.”
A 743m length of road is being reconstructed (around 4,532m²) with roughly 2,584tonnes of material being recycled back into the road.
Last year, more than 10 per cent of all surfacing material laid on Dorset Council’s network was recycled.
During the works there will be a signed diversion in place directing traffic via the A30, B3092, B3091 and vice versa.
