Dorset landlords and letting agents are invited to sign up for a free online training offer from Dorset Council this June.
The council wants to work more closely with landlords and agents and is offering free training to help promote good practice in the rented market.
The online training courses will be available free of charge from Monday 7 June.
Topics covered will include:
- Housing standards, including the housing health and safety rating system (HHSRS) and how hazards are identified
- Changes in housing law, including Fitness for Human Habitation, electrical inspections, Energy Performance Certificates and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards
- Fire, including key factors to consider in both single-family homes and Houses in Multiple Occupation
- Houses in Multiple Occupation, including definitions, licensing, roles and responsibilities
- Houses in Multiple Occupation standards, including room sizes and amenities – how are they measured, the management regulations and their implications
Access to the modules, which have been specifically made for landlords and agents operating in the Dorset Council area, is on a first come first served basis so early booking is advised.

Cllr Graham Carr-Jones, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Safety said:
“As a landlord myself I know the vital role we play in providing housing across Dorset.
“The past 15 months have been challenging, not least because of COVID and the new legislation introduced for landlords.
“Dorset Council’s housing team is offering this free training to help get you back on track and up to speed, and encourage best practice here in Dorset.
“I would urge everyone interested in learning about how to operate as a responsible landlord or letting agent in Dorset to sign up and book their virtual place.”
Cllr Carr-Jones added:
“We’re also ambitious to develop our relationship with landlords.
“At the same as registering for this training I recommend that you register to become a member of our Landlords Local Authority Partnership and keep up to date with latest news, further training offers and much more.”

I became aware of this course when I received the Dorset Business news email today 10th June. It states that with the code you can access the course between the 7th and 20th of June. I cannot access it because it states sales have ended. A bit daft to promote it when it is no longer available; it would have been helpful!
