Dorset Road Fix – resurfacing in July

Dorset Highways maintenance gangs are out across the county continuing to repair road damage.

To allow this work to take place safely, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Daytime road closures are 9am to 4pm and night work is usually from 7pm to 6am.

We will do our best to keep you updated if our schedule of work changes. In July we will be repairing sections along the following roads:

A31 Highways England works

We’ve been made aware that HE has road closures scheduled for works on the A31. A signed diversion will be in place via the A349 and A350, please allow extra time for your journey:

A31, Wimborne
five nights starting on Monday 12 July
road closed each night 9pm to 6am between Wimborne (Merley roundabout) and Sturminster Marshall (Roundhouse roundabout)

This is not an exhaustive list of all roads being repaired. Dorset Highways’ annual road maintenance programme, includes patching, micro-surfacing, surface dressing, in-situ recycling, road preservation and resurfacing treatments.

Using a variety of surface treatments ensures that more of Dorset Council’s roads get repaired with the budget available, compared to using resurfacing alone.

Surface dressing is also underway across the county.

All planned road works can be found online.

Please use our online form to report road-related issues/damage. This goes directly to the local community highways officer for assessment.

Additional safety measures

Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.

  • single person vehicle movements both to and from site
  • maintaining current social distancing requirements at all times
  • daily toolbox talks to share the latest safe working guidance and COVID-19 updates
  • daily health screening involving temperature checks and general well-being
  • no high-risk workers on site
  • revised working practices to reduce the number of staff on site while still maintaining health and safety standards when working on the highway
  • changes to site welfare, including additional toilet facilities and hygiene provision

Please be mindful of how you speak to our workforce, they are working within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.

  1. Can you be more specific on the road closure of church road three legged cross please. Is the whole length of church road to be closed or part of it, if only part of it which part. I am a resident in this road and need to know if this will effect access to my house.

  2. I wish to request re-surfacing at the Wollaton Rd end of Matlock Rd in Ferndown. It is a mess.Various crews have done work nearby but this short stretch has been neglected.

  3. Road closure. Church road, three legged cross. 9am – 4pm. Will I be able to drive out of my house during these hours?

    1. Hi Iain, the gang on site will do their best to maintain access to your house but it may involve a short wait while they move equipment and ensure it is safe for you to do so. Please speak to the workers on site on the day, and they’ll try to help.
