Fuel supply in Dorset

Emergency services, health organisations and local authorities across Dorset have met again today to discuss the impacts of the increased demand on fuel that’s been witnessed across the county.

Partners are keeping a ‘watching brief’ on services to vulnerable people and families to make sure they continue to receive the essential support they need. Services such as ‘End of life’ care and social care workers.

The news from the fuel industry shows that the situation at the pumps is beginning to improve. Across the south west average sales are dropping, and average stocks are increasing. Locally we may see isolated closures and still have the inconvenience of queueing.

The advice to motorists is to buy fuel when you normally would.

BCP Council Leader Drew Mellor, said: “I recognise it has been a difficult week for so many critical workers including health and social care so it is reassuring to see an improvement locally and believe this will continue over the next few days. However I would encourage people to continue to take a sensible approach.”

Cllr Laura Miller, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “We’re only seeing a few localised issues where essential workers have not being able to get fuel. We are working with them to find solutions to this, so our vulnerable people are cared for and supported.”
