Busy roundabout closed in November

Resurfacing works will close the A35 Poole Hill Roundabout, Bere Regis, in early November.

Dorset Highways is carrying out structural repairs as well as applying a new road surface as part of its ongoing maintenance work across the county.

Due to the treatment being used – where the foundation layers will need to cure – the work includes a 48-hour closure.

The road closures are:

  • roundabout & approaches closed 8pm Mon 1 Nov to 6am Tues 2 Nov
  • roundabout & approaches closed 8pm Tues 2 Nov to 6am Weds 3 Nov
  • roundabout & approaches closed 6am Weds 3 Nov to 6am Fri 5 Nov

The roundabout and approaches will be closed all day Wednesday 3 November and all day Thursday 4 November.

The signed A Road diversion routes

The signed diversion uses roads of the same classification as the road closed, so drivers travelling from the east or west will be signed to use the A35, A350 and A31, and drivers from the south will be signed to use the A352 and A351 to join this route.

Drivers can choose their own alternative route suitable to their vehicle.

Blandford Road North works

Drivers in the Poole area are also being advised that a section of Blandford Road North in Upton will be one-way throughout November.

As part of the construction of the new Aldi store, Blandford Road North will be northbound only between Upton Close and Upton Roundabout from 1 November to 26 November.

A signed diversion route will be in place for southbound vehicles to use the Upton Bypass and Poole Road to get onto Blandford Road North.

  1. As a Bere Regis resident, I have been sent a letter about the roundabout repairs.

However, the closure times in the letter do not match the closure times detailed above. Which is correct?

    1. Hi Simon, apologies for the confusion.
I’m afraid I’ve not seen the letter, but the times above have been confirmed by our road space team (who do the official legal notices for road closures).

    2. Hi Simon, so sorry – the closure will be in place all day Wednesday and all day Thursday (I’ve updated the article).
I’m so sorry for this mistake, the information was signed off for publication but it appears that this error wasn’t picked up.

      1. Sorry, but there is now a further issue with the signage. The days and dates don’t match (for 2021) on the yellow signs at the road junctions near Bere Regis. Friday is November 5th not the 6th!

      2. Well you said 8 pm closure coming from Poole I was there at closure point at 7pm last night it was closed. Pathetic signage why couldn’t you put up electric signage as you do for don’t use phone etc, the small yellow signs from Bakers arm Roundabout onwards how can we read them while driving at night. Shoddy planning can’t be bothered attitude by who ever was contracted to set this up.

  2. All very well for this road scheme in Blandford yet Dorset County Council has lost sight of the fact that the ill-fated Canford Bottom Roundabout, East Wimborne remains the major cause of air pollution/miles of static traffic queues/ frustrated business users/nervous drivers terrified of using this appalling road system. The cost to local industry is colossal as driving times in this area are large.
A challenge!! – I challenge one or more of Dorset County Council’s councillors new to the roundabout to drive through the roundabout at 08.30am on a weekday and provide an honest report.

  3. Signage has been truly dreadful.
So far as I am aware, there was no advance warning on Monday. I arrived at the road closure shortly after 2000hours and there was a sign there saying that there was a closure that day (only) from 8pm until 6am The following day.
The diversion signs from the Bakers Arms roundabout simply brought drivers around in a circle to go back to where they began on Wednesday.
By Thursday, advanced notices were posted well in advance when coming from Poole. From Dorchester, the diversions were poor, as too late for alternative routes to be chosen.
Whether the closure was shared with internet road services providers I do not know. The sat nav in my car is usually quite good in giving advanced warnings and alternative routes, but has been very poor on this occasion. Presumably that is because detailed information was not provided to them ahead of the event.
