Dorset Council Local Plan comments are published

The comments that were received during the first consultation of the Draft Dorset Council Local Plan have been published on the council’s website.

The first consultation of the draft Dorset Council Local Plan was carried out between January and March this year. Around 9,000 respondents took part during that time. These comments are all being considered alongside the plan and national planning policy to provide Dorset residents with the accommodation, employment and facilities that they will need over the next 17 years. This includes the need to provide housing for people who cannot afford to buy or rent from the housing market.

The Dorset Council Local Plan outlines the strategy for ensuring the growth that the area needs, happens in the right places. And that it is of the right character and quality, while protecting Dorset’s natural environment and acting on climate change. It also ensures that the right level of community services is provided, including schools, as well as retail, leisure and other community facilities.

Cllr David Walsh, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Planning, said:

“We continue to work on the policies that underpin the plan. This includes research and gathering information to make sure the plan delivers what it needs to for Dorset’s next generations.

“I am very proud of the work the team is doing. We have had representation from across the  Dorset Council area. There will be a further chance to comment upon the plan before it is voted on by our full council next year.”

Work continues to develop policies for local housing need, the self-build register and to find ways of helping us to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
