Work on the new junction of Ringwood Road with Casterbridge Road in Ferndown (near the Angel Inn) has been completed on schedule. The improvements consist of an upgraded junction layout, which includes new pedestrian crossings, controlled by a new set of re-phased traffic lights.
The improvements are designed to help traffic flow at this busy junction as well as to provide a safe pedestrian and cycling crossing point.
The work is part of the current Ringwood Road sustainable transport improvements project which is itself part of a new 27km sustainable travel route linking Ferndown and Wimborne to Poole Town Centre. This route also links into a network of 78km of new cycling, walking and bus service improvements across the south east Dorset region, which is being paid for by the £102m south east Dorset Transforming Cities Fund programme.
Councillor Ray Bryan, Dorset Council’s portfolio holder for Highways, Travel and Environment said:
“It is great to see the works on Ringwood Road making good progress. Ferndown is a much-loved residential area and we want to make it a safer residential area. Over 19,000 vehicles use Ringwood Road everyday including a large number of heavy goods vehicles. This can make it a difficult road to cross. This new junction and crossing will enhance safety for residents in the area as well as to improve the traffic flow along the road.”

I use this road regularly and never had a problem with this junction.
However, that’s not the case with the Glenmoor Road junction which would have benefited with a traffic light system combined with a crossing
I agree entirely. the council have got it wrong again!! just like they did when they put a silly little cycle lane in the Middle of the road at the junction of Victoria road and Wimborne rd. which they removed about 2 weeks later!!!
The latest farce Avebury Avenue Northbourne
Constantly trying to squeeze more people onto an already narrow road Toucan Crossing More light pollution and no help to the residents of Northbourne How about 20mph limits through the village
The junction of Glenmoor Road with Ringwood Road would certainly benefit from traffic lights. Why not bring the pedestrian crossing lights to work with new traffic lights at the junction?
