Surface dressing moves into eastern residential areas

People living in the east of the Dorset Council area are being asked to look out for advance notice boards as road repairs move into the area.

Surface dressing – a maintenance treatment to prolong the life of a road by sealing it against water damage and restoring skid resistance – is a quick process but requires road closures to be in place and vehicles to be moved off the road for the work to be carried out.

Over 60 roads have been surface dressed across the council area so far this season, with 14 roads in Ashley Heath and 20 roads in Ferndown set to be refreshed.

Residents should look out for yellow signs – usually up around two days before work starts – and are asked to move vehicles off the road before 9am.

Roads are close during the work due to the number of large vehicles operation, with closures lasting for around one or two hours depending on the length of the road being treated.

The road can be driven on as soon as it’s finished, with an advisory 20mph speed limit in place to help loose stones ‘bed down’ into the bitumen.

Roads are swept for excess stones one to two days after work is completed, with road markings replaced a week or so later.

  1. I would request that additional roads in Ferndown be ‘resurfaced’.
Ryan Close is where I live. The road has significant ‘dips’ which ought to be repaired and the road resurfaced as others in Ferndown already.

The footpath all around Ryan Close and Ryan Gardens are also particularly poor, trip hazards especially for older residents, some of whom are challenged with failing sight. Can anything be done about this please?

      1. Please can you email everyone with dates for the St Marys Road Ferndown when known. There are 2 doctors surgeries and a busy chemist in that road and disabled locals may need to reschedule their doctors appointments around the resurfacing. It isn’t really possible for all the patients to keep driving by to see if there is a yellow board up beforehand. Thank you.

      2. Hi

Why is the whole of Victoria Gardens , Ferndown not being done? The road with the terraced housing is in a terrible state and it seems crazy not to include this at the same time?

I thought our cal-de-sac was to be done from the notification that was sent?

Can we please be done too????

        Thanks

        Paul

  2. Why leave out Sandy lane ? This is a busroute and needs to take priority instead of numerous infills which will not work long term

    1. Sandy Lane is marked up for something, if not repairs, what?

  3. I note you are dressing Shelley Close Ashley Heath but not Dryden Close which is attached to it. Dryden was constructed at the same time as Shelley by the same contractor and is in worse condition with much of the original top surface missing and now very uneven. Can you please include Dryden Close in you plan.

  4. How about Bracken Road where it joins into Leeson Drive in Ferndown, it’s in a terrible state !!!!

  5. your street plan posting at Bushmead Drive, Ashley Heath shows,
Norris Close, Shelley Close Bushmead Drive including the green but not the cul de sac at the north of Bushmead Drive.
Is it your intention to include it or not.

  6. Middle Rd, Lytchett Matravers, road surface dressed! Why do it before all the pot holes had been repaired….we still have to avoid them.

Also a prior notice to advise approx two days after, the surplus grit collecting machine would be starting approx 8am, blowing out extensive dust and being extremely noisy. At least our windows would have been closed against the dust and cars moved.

  7. Dryden close Ashley Heath is badly in need of resurfacing but does not seen to be on the list of roads to be done
Our neighbouring road Shelley Close is mentioned which is no where near as bad as Dryden why are we being missed out

  8. Great news!
We had become concerned about the local Ferndown roads breaking up, including ours. This would have become more expensive to repair, due to ice penetration damage, as time went on. Preventive maintenance is the answer and I wish I’d follow that maxim personally! 🙂
We do appreciate that funds and manpower are hard to find these days, so it’s a difficult decision to decide which and when! Glad that we’ve been lucky this time!

  9. Woodside Road was due to be done today (according to the yellow signs put out yesterday – thanks for the short notice). We changed our plans to accommodate this. But, of course, no workers have turned up. So now when will it be? Or is it all a bit of a lottery?

    1. Hi Kevin, sorry for this inconvenience. Woodside Road is still on the list (should be done next week). Unfortunately, due to the extremely hot road temperatures, the work is finishing earlier in the day than usual so our crew has had to amend their plans at short notice depending on the conditions.
