Deadline looming to apply for Community and Cultural Project Fund

There is still time to apply for funding if you have a sports, arts, or heritage project or event you wish to get off the ground in the new year.

This funding could provide up to 80 per cent of total project fund up to a max of £5,000.

Round 4 of the Community and Culture Project Fund will close at midnight on 9 January.

Community organisations with a focus on the cost-of-living challenge for vulnerable people and those most in need in the Dorset council area are also encouraged to apply.

Cllr Laura Beddow, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Culture, Communities and Customer Services said: “This funding can help to make a real difference to people living in our communities.

“We encourage applications from a wide range of organisations, including arts, museums, heritage, community, physical activity and play activities.

“We also want to hear from groups who have a focus on supporting people through the cost-of-living challenge, but also welcome applications from other groups too.”

In previous funding rounds this year 34 organisations have benefitted from the grants.

They include Co-Create who were awarded funding of £4,934.00 to run a series art lessons for 10 deaf adults over 10 weeks in Weymouth community café.

The project brought together a group of Deaf people from across Dorset whose only means of communication is through British Sign Language (BSL). Many were inspired to continue with art after the sessions finished and made new friends to combat social isolation.

Weymouth Skate Park was also awarded £2k to design & create a graffiti wall with young people and artists.

12 young people took part in the project aimed at opportunities to express themselves through a graffiti art medium with professional guidance.

The project gave the young people an opportunity to create their own ‘happy space’ at the Skate Park, in collaboration with the professional artists.  Mental Health and Wellbeing was one of the key outcomes for this project as well as introduction to new art skills.

You can apply for a capital grant of between £1,000 and £25,000, to fund up to 20% of your total project costs.
