Dorset Road Fix – resurfacing March 2023

Over the coming month, our maintenance gangs will be out across the Dorset Council area to repair road damage.

To allow this work to take place safely, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Daytime road closures are 9am to 4pm and signed diversions will be in place.

We will do our best to keep you updated if our schedule of work changes.

Using a variety of surface treatments ensures that more of Dorset Council’s roads get repaired with the budget available, compared to using resurfacing alone. Find out more about our road maintenance.

Please use our online form to report highway-related issues/damage. This goes directly to the local community highways officer for assessment.

This is not an exhaustive list of all repairs. See our online map to view all planned roadworks across the Dorset Council area, including works undertaken by Wessex Water, telecoms companies, National Highways and other organisations.

  1. Can you please inform us when Woolsbridge road , st Leonard’s is scheduled from last years understandable postponement . The cycle lane markings have disappeared in many stretches and as pointed out before are dangerous for cyclists using the cycle lanes

    1. Hello Keith, sorry for the delay, I have been told this is scheduled for this spring/summer but a date has not been confirmed yet. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific. Claire

  2. When are the roads around Alderholt going to be fixed and resurfaced since they are in a dilapidated, dangerous state. I for one, have blown 2 runflat tyres over the last two years. It sometimes seems Alderholt is a forgotten outpost in this area.

    1. Hi. I travel from Verwood to Kinson leisure centre 4 weekdays, some morning and evening. This last week I have sat in traffic jams for up to an hour on 3 different routes to it- Merley to Bear Cross roundabout -? Queen Anne Avenue or King John Avenue, Longham to Bear Cross Roundabout, and then Castle lane- the latter appearing to be gas works? I have left home early to avoid rush hour traffic too. No schools were in on the Thursday, in Castle lane, due to teacher strikes, so no school pick up traffic affecting it. I am running out of ideas as to which route to use to avoid being stuck in a traffic jam. I am a member of the leisure centre in Kinson and enjoy the classes they offer there. There is a small ‘ fine’ for no show at a class I have booked into. So far this has not happened due to the early times I go, but it has become frustrating as this is happening on 3 different routes due to works being done at the same time?

  3. Salisbury road in Blandford Forum from the bypass roundabout to the Esso garage is in very poor condition and needs resurfacing.

      1. All the roads into Thorncombe are in a poor state, patching has helped a bit but I’d now coming out. Being very hilly and used by heavy tractors the roads take a lot of wear. A complete re surface is needed.

  4. Hello,
Can you look at Gainsborough Road in Asley Heath, BH24 2HY.
Th top surface is wearing very thin on the lower half of the road at the bottom of the hill and exposing the hardcore base underneath.
    Many Thanks

  5. Good morning.
Residence in Purbeck are aware that there will be some major work undertaken on the A351 between Swanage and Corfe Castle.
Could you possibly confirm when this work will be taking place?
    Thank you. Frank Roberts.

    1. Hi Frank, Resurfacing work is planned for Valley Road, Harman’s Cross between 17 and 22 April 2023. The road will be closed at night between the hours of 8pm and 6am.
This is between the junction of Coombe Hill, to just past the junction of Crack Lane. There will be a follow up scheme from Crack Lane junction back to Corfe Castle to address a failed surface dressing. A specialist contractor needs to be appointed for this work so we are unable to give a date for this at the current time. Please see further details here about the confirmed work: https://one.network/?tmi=GB25899140 Claire

  6. I seem to recall a recent notification regarding litter picking on the A31.
The state of the A31 from the Sainsbury’s roundabout at the Ferndown end of the dual carriageway to the Roundhouse roundabout with the A350 is an
absolute disgrace to the Dorset countryside. When is this work going to be carried out?

    1. Hello Peter, we will be litter picking from this Sunday 12 March to Friday 17 March. We’ll be going from Avon Bridge to the River Stour Bridge, and then from the Roundhouse roundabout to the Lake Gates roundabout. Claire

    2. You write this as is litter is the council’s fault or perhaps I misinterpret. The responsibility for Litter lies fairly and squarely with those who drop it and it’s ridiculous that so much time and money is spent clearing up after idiots. More CCTV ?

  7. I complained about the B3084 Alderholt as you approach Wolvercroft Garden Centre months ago nothing has changed we are only a backwater in Dorset regardless of ther rates we have to pay.

  8. The road between Horton and Woodlands has a broken surface, especially bad between Haythorne and the Golf Course. This badly needs resurfacing.

  9. Are you going to consider North Allington as it is in a terrible state.
Need people that know how to repair the roads.
Its like a patchwork quilt with loads of potholes.
