Alcohol and Gambling licensing consultations

Two consultations for the Dorset Council area have been launched. The first is seeking views on a proposal to retain the Weymouth Cumulative Impact Zone for alcohol licensing. This designation ensures that any changes to existing licences or any new applications are considered in relation to the whole area to reduce the potential for harm and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) from alcohol related disorder.

The second consultation is asking for opinions on the draft revised Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy. This document sets out how the council will carry out its functions under the Gambling Act 2005 with a view to promoting the licensing objectives namely:

  • prevent gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime.
  • ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way.
  • protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.

Both consultations can be found at https://consultation.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/ and close on 9 November.
