Dorset will be remembering the tragic loss of life following two World Wars and other conflicts in more recent years at its annual Remembrance Service on Armistice Day.
The Service will take place at 10.40am on Saturday 11th November at the Memorial Area at County Hall in Dorchester.
The Service will be led by Revd John Yarrien, and the introduction will be read by Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council before the wreaths are laid.
A Bugler and Band will be in attendance and HM Lord-Lieutenant Angus Campbell and Queen’s Gurkha Signals Captain Vijay Raj Ghale will read the Exhortation and Kohima Plea respectively, followed by a two-minute silence.
We will be live-streaming the service on Facebook and invite members of the public to join us online or in person, to remember and honour those who fought and died in the line of duty.
Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council, said:
“We will honour the sacrifice of the fallen and valour of our veterans.
“We will remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel and those who have lost their lives as a result of armed conflict or terrorism and all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
“We hope that residents will join the Service via the live-stream or in person and we encourage people to mark the two-minute silence at 11am.”
