Further consultation on specific parts of the emerging Purbeck Local Plan

Dorset Council is opening a further, limited, consultation on several revised policies and assessments of the Purbeck Local Plan. It will start on 10 November 2023 and last for six weeks.

The Purbeck Local Plan sets out planning policies for the area up until 2034 but is also being prepared in the context of the new Dorset Council Local Plan. It will be used when deciding planning application alongside national and regional planning policies in the period up to the date when the new Dorset Council Local Plan is adopted.

This local plan is currently being examined independently by Planning Inspectors and, subject to modifications they are reasonably satisfied that the local plan can be found sound and legally compliant.

To date, following the first public hearings held by the Inspector in 2020, two rounds of modifications to the local plan have been prepared, published and considered through consultations. The latter of these focussed on policies related to the delivery of strategic habitat site mitigation (known as SANG) for Purbeck heaths. A public hearing was held last year to allow discussion of the issues raised through this consultation.

Following this a set of supplementary proposed main modifications have been drafted to resolve issues discussed in the hearing, in response to new national guidance on dealing with nutrient pollution from wastewater in Poole Harbour and to address issues with local plan policies maps.

People who have previously made a response on the Purbeck Local Plan through earlier consultations will be notified directly when the latest modifications have been published. Additionally, anyone who is interested in the changes which we are suggesting can respond if they wish.

Find details of the consultation. A selection of key consultation documents are also available to view as paper copies at local Purbeck libraries. Responses can be made online through the council’s website or in writing using a response form (copies of response forms can be downloaded or provided on request by emailing  or calling 01305 838334).

Officers can also be contacted on the same e-mail address and telephone number to respond to any difficulties that people may experience when seeking to access information or provide a response to the consultation.

The consultation closes on 22 December 2023.
