Dorset Road Fix – October dates

Dorset Highways maintenance gangs are out across the county continuing to repair road damage.

Due to the large equipment used, the area of the road being worked on will be closed. Daytime road closures are 9am to 4pm.

In October we will be repairing sections along the following roads:

Church Lane, East Orchard
daytime closure, 30 Sept to 4 Oct

Ringwood Road, Longham
night closure (9pm-6am), 1 Oct to 7 Oct (weekdays only)

Hurn Road, Matchams
daytime closure, 9 Oct & 10 Oct

A30, Sherborne (drainage works)
Greenhill, Higher Cheap Street, George Street & Bristol Road
night closure (8pm-6am) 8 Oct to 9 Oct

Alderholt Mill Bridge – rescheduled
Due to the heavy rainfall,  the bridge repair works have been cancelled – high water levels mean we’re unable to erect the scaffolding needed to carry out the work.
This will be re-scheduled for spring next year.

Chickerell Link Road/Hampshire Road, Weymouth
night closure (8pm-6am) 21 Oct to 25 Oct

New Road, Sherborne (now five nights work)
night closure (9pm-6am) 25 Oct to 31 Oct

Dates can be subject to change due to adverse weather, this page will be updated if there is any change. All scheduled roadworks can be found on our online roadworks map.

  1. The roads around Hazelbury Bryan are badly in need of repair not spasmodic patch ups.The Causeway,Frizzels Hil,The Water Knapp all used by much heavier vehicles than Cheap Street which is pedestrian for most of the day and yet it is to be repaired is there any way a programme of repair for these roads can be included in the near future.I don’t recall any potholes or uneven surface in Cheap Street.

  2. Fourth time of assking.
When can we expect you to take steps to remedy the discraceful condition
of the road surface of Victoria Gardens, Ferndown.
Please don,t ignore this enquiry AGAIN.

    1. Hi David, sorry you’ve not received our reply, I replied to your comments both in June and July as follows:

Unfortunately Victoria Gardens is not currently on our programme for a road surface treatment.

I’m sorry you feel that previous complaints have not been acted on. The best thing is to report road damage using our online form: https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/Report-a-pothole This will be passed on to the local community highway officer who will assess the road for any ‘actionable defects’ that need repair, and recommend it for any further action if necessary.

We understand that residents are concerned about the condition of our roads and we’re always happy to look into your concerns, sorry I don’t have more positive news for you on this occasion.

  3. May I say what an excellent notification service this is and that the updates on the progression of works is superb. The work then carried appears well organized and of a very good standard.

May I enquire whether there are any plans to re-surface the length of road from the Antelope Inn at Hazelbury Bryan – Martin Richards Tractor Works (going towards Sturminster Newton)? This is in very poor repair ( and has been for a long time) and is particularly dangerous at the bottom the dip as one turns the corner.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Simon, unfortunately, we’ve not currently got this road on our programme for a surface treatment.

Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

  4. Duck Street/Hanford road Child Okeford was on a list to be resurfaced at one time but seems now to be not part of the plan. Is this still part of the overall plan?

    1. Hi Robert, don’t worry they’ve not disappeared off the list. Both roads are on our list for next year 2020/21 – C14 from Steepleton Bends to Child Okeford and Duck Street.

  5. It would be so nice if the gas, electricity, water and cable industries gave information like yours online. Here at Wyke Regis (between Portland and Weymouth) we have endured many months of roadworks all round us and there seems no end in sight.
The main road from Morrisons roundabout towards Portland was also ripped up nearly a year ago, and the cycle track has still not been reinstated. Many years ago we were told that councils would have powers to control utility road-ripping. Is there nothing that can be done to speed these digs up? The additional costs in time and petrol for drivers – with no alternative routes – must be considerable.
