Urgent works on Swanage road

Urgent resurfacing work will be carried out in early December on the A351, Valley Road – the main road to Swanage.

The road east of Harman’s Cross will be closed overnight for three nights – from 8pm to 6am on Wednesday 4, Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December. The work will be finished in the early hours of Saturday morning and the road open in time for the weekend.

The signed diversion route for drivers will be via Ulwell Road and the B3351, New Road to Corfe Castle. Local drivers may choose to find alternative routes.

David Clegg, Service Manager for Network Operations, said: “We’ve been monitoring this section of road due to the irregularity of the surface and recent cores from the highway has shown urgent repairs are needed – there has been some displacement of material in the lower layers.

“We appreciate that this route is vital for Swanage businesses and residents; by doing this work at night we should cause as little disruption as is possible on this type of road.”
