Dorset Council is looking for views on the future of the Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre (TIC). This service is currently run by Dorset Council and based in a building owned by Lyme Regis Town Council.
The Town Council has served notice on Dorset Council to vacate this building by 31 March 2020 meaning we are now considering the options for its future. We would like to understand the public’s opinions to help shape that decision.
A public consultation opens today, Monday 16 December and will run until Monday 10 February. Please complete the survey to have your say here www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/lymeregistic
Should you require a printed copy, please contact us on 01305 225000 or you can collect one in person at the TIC or Lyme Regis library.
Two drop-in sessions have been scheduled at Woodmead Hall, Hill Rd, Lyme Regis. Cllr Tony Alford will be available at both sessions to answer any questions along with officers from Dorset Council.
- For businesses – Tuesday 14 January 2-4pm
- For members of the public – Wednesday 22 January 10- 12pm
Cllr Tony Alford, Portfolio Holder for Customer, Community and Regulatory Services, said:
“We want to hear from local residents, businesses, organisations and visitors to Lyme Regis about how any changes to the current TIC service would affect them.
“Evidence tells us the nature of visitor information demand is changing and therefore the overall demand for the services the TIC provides is falling. Dorset Council currently spends approximately £90,000 a year to subsidise the TIC.
“We’ll continue to support Dorset’s tourism sector with the Visit Dorset website to reflect the changing nature of how people access visitor information. I would encourage everyone who has a view to have their say by completing the survey.”

We shall try to visit the very important meeting that is planned at the Woodmead Halls on the 22nd January , and hope that further information to local people is made available who not be aware of it happening.
Hello, my family and I visited Lyme Regis after Christmas and visited your tourist information center. We were pleasantly surprised at how friendly, helpful and informative the info ladies were. We were visiting from the US (Colorado) and read about Mary Anning before visiting the Dorset area. We were so happy to chat with locals about what the area has to offer and talk fossil hunting! It would be a shame if other visitors from outside your area couldn’t find tourist information and a friendly face to assist. Please keep the center open, we will surely visit again! Thanks ladies!!
The Tourist Information Centre is in my opinion a must for any town by the sea who wish to attract international people .Yes they can go on a web site
for bookings etc. but when they are in town nothing is better than face to face
contact to give visitors security and information they can rely on.
My view why we need a tourist information centre in the case of any
mishaps, lost children, pets ,etc. where does one go for reliable help and
general information.
