Dorset Council is starting a programme of carefully selected surfacing works.
Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.

hopefully the works in Swanage town centre can carry on as this will be important when the time comes to open shops etc. especiaslly as it will be in the summer
Hi Leigh,
We’re assessing which of our activities we can safely restart within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.
We know how important it will be for shops to reopen as soon as the green light is given by government, and we want to limit the impact our work has on that.
Our main issue in Swanage is ensuring that the work can be done within the social distancing requirements currently in place. We’re working with other highway authorities and private sector partners to gauge what is achievable while keeping our workers and our residents safe.
As soon as we can restart the project we will do so – sorry we can’t put a date on it.
May I suggest urgent action be taken to paint the road with the One Way signs in the Highcliffe Castle car park …. there is nothing visible and the cyclists in particular just whizz through
Hi Cathy, please can you report this to BCP Council: https://my.poole.gov.uk/en and they will hopefully be able to do something to help.
It’s a pity the councils can fill in all the pot holes. Was driving down Matchams Lane on Thursday 21st and hit a large pot hole near the Matchams post office. Garage have looked at the damage and a front spring has broken. I will be sending the bill to Christchurch council. I’ve taken some photos of the holes and this one even has orange or yellow markings so the council knew about it. The car behind me went into the pot hole so they might be getting two bills.
Instead of just filling the holes, the edges need sealing with tar to stop the water getting under the new surface.
What is the plan for residential access during the day for the Waterston Lane/Druce resurfacing works?
Hi Rich, residents using Waterston Lane as a through road will need to use an alternative route. For the few properties accessed directly off the road, access will be maintained as best as possible but drivers may be asked to wait for a period of time while we complete a task.
Is there a resurfacing schedule for residential streets in particular Weymouth. I live at Court Road off Broadlands lane and the road is particularly in disrepair with worn surfaces and cracked loose edging which washes away and pot holes which are continually patched and wash away following persistent bad weather. The road doesn’t seem to have been resurfaced in the last 20 years and with all the main roads continuing to be done I was wondering what the position is on residential streets.
Greatful for clarity on this matter.
Hi Neil, many residential roads in Weymouth have been surface dressed or had micro-asphalt treatment over the last three years and this is something we are doing more of on residential roads across the county.
Sorry your road hasn’t made it to the list yet, best thing is to report the damage online: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roads-highways-maintenance/report-a-problem-on-the-road-or-pavement.aspx this will go to our local community highways officer to assess what repairs are needed. This also feeds into our longer-term road maintenance plans.
