Changes at Sherborne household recycling centre

People using Sherborne Household Recycling Centre (HRC, or “the tip”) on West Mill Lane will no longer need to use the Terrace Playing Fields car park to collect a ticket before entry from Saturday 11 July.

Dorset Council has completed works so that normal access arrangements can return for accessing the HRC.

Please remember:

  • All social distancing measures will still need to be observed when using the HRC
  • Do not queue or park on West Mill Lane
  • When queuing on the access road vehicles keep left to aid the two-way flow of traffic
  • If the site is busy you may be asked to return later
  • The reuse/ resale will remain closed until further notice

Cllr Tony Alford, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Customer, Community and Regulatory Services, said:

“ I want  to thank Sherborne Town Council who have made the reopening of the site possible by hosting the ticket operation at the car park along with the many volunteers who have done an excellent job in all weathers to make reopening a success. Thank you also to everyone who has used the tip so well and for your continued patience as we open services.

“We want visitors to stay safe so please keep your distance and if the site is busy then please come back later.”

  1. Pity. I liked the ticketing system. It prevented any traffic issues on the access road.

  2. The changes to the planning system haven’t really been described. I’m concerned that they will mean even less input from objectors to major schemes. Will it mean that projects like the north-of-Dorchester housing plan will sail through unopposed?

    1. Hi Lynne – Planning and development is governed by national laws and local policy. As a planning autghority we have to take onboard all comments in relation to these parameters. We are currently drafting the Dorset Council wide Local Plan, which will be open for consultation later on this year. If you want more information about the progress on the Local plan please sign up here https://wh1.snapsurveys.com/s.asp?k=156050954367. The local plan will consider what is needed for Dorset over the next ten years. This includes housing, industry, schools and roads and much more. Watch out for more information about all aspects of planning on our social media channels in the coming months.
