A new campaign has been launched by Dorset Council to find more foster carers for Dorset children.

All you need is loveLooking for a change of direction

Looking for a change of direction

I rent my home, can I foster?

The campaign’s message is that ‘fostering is for everyone’ and most people can foster, all you need is a spare room, love and energy. It will also highlight that fostering is a paid career, which anyone looking for a change of direction should consider.

New eye-catching adverts celebrating family life and featuring local images including Charmouth Beach and Lewesdon Hill, will be promoted on social media.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, said: “If you are considering a change of direction, why not find out a little more about fostering, it is a very rewarding paid career.

“A lot of people think fostering isn’t for them, perhaps they worry they are too old or don’t fit a certain stereotype.

“We want to get the message across that most people can foster. We want to hear from people who are retired, LGBTQ+, single or have no childcare experience. Please don’t rule yourself out, all you need is love, energy and a spare room.

“Finding the best foster carers for our children is vitally important, without them children

may have to leave their schools, their friends and everything they know and be placed in care far away. That is not good enough. We need more people in Dorset to join our fostering family. Please visit fosterindorset.com to find out more.

Anyone who would like to find out a little more about fostering should visit fosterindorset.com or @fosterindorset on Facebook. Or search #FosteringPays on social media.

Everyone is also welcome to join a friendly drop-in chat about fostering on Zoom. The next one will be on Friday 25 September and the Zoom meeting id is: 880 942 6959.
