Additional safety measures

Additional safety measures are being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are also working closely with other highway authorities across the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working.

  • single person vehicle movements both to and from site
  • maintaining current social distancing requirements at all times
  • daily toolbox talks to share the latest safe working guidance and COVID-19 updates
  • daily health screening involving temperature checks and general well-being
  • no high-risk workers on site
  • revised working practices to reduce the number of staff on site while still maintaining health and safety standards when working on the highway
  • changes to site welfare, including additional toilet facilities and hygiene provision

Please be mindful of how you speak to our workforce, they are working within the Government’s guidance for construction activity – that it should continue where it fits with both the current Public Health England requirements and in accordance with industry safety guidance.

  1. Any plans to improve/resurface roads in Swanage outside of the town centre or the main road from Wareham? De Moulham Rd has a worse surface than the Bovington tank driver training circuit and all road surfaces north of Ulwell Rd are falling apart causing damage to car suspensions and I personally narrowly avoided being knocked off my motorcycle trying to avoid potholes on Redcliffe Rd. The road surfaces are dire. Residents of the homes by these roads pay an awful lot of money on Council Tax so how about a bit of return from the council? I would like a reply to this message please. rather than being ignored.
    Thankyou.

  2. I wish Britannia Way Dorchester could be included in the list of roads to be fixed as is is definitely one of the worst roads in Dorchester.

  3. Could you please note when looking at roads that need repairing the state of Allendale Road Wimborne this is now a road that carries traffic to the new school and has been in a very bad way for several years and is deteriorating with increased usage.

  4. I’m looking forward to the roadworks on the A354 Tarrant Hinton. For a few blissful days we will have respite from the noise and fumes of motorists who every day exceed the 50 MPH limit imposed on our village. I have recorded vehicle noise in excess of 100 dbs on the 500 yd stretch of road through our village. Pimperne has a 30 MPH limit – why not Tarrant Hinton?I realise that this message will be ignored as usual.

    1. Hi Damien, we work with town and parish councils with regards to speed limits – as requests for changes must come through them – so please contact your local parish in the first instance to raise your concerns. Please also be aware that there is set criteria, laid out by the Department for Transport, that has to me bet in order for speed limits to be lowered.
You can read more about our speed limit policy online: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roads-highways-maintenance/traffic-management/speed-limits-and-enforcement/dorset-council-speed-limit-policy.aspx
      Kind regards, Kerry

  5. We’re glad you are repairing roads. However, could I please put in a plea for white lining to be updated particularly on our rural roads. The Wimborne/Blandford road is great in certain places but non existent in others as are many other main connection but dark roads. Ie Blandford to Salisbury is another example. Thank you for reading

  6. Can you please resurface the dreadful Beaufoys Avenue , Queens Road & Willow Way area in Ferndown which have never been touched in 20 years.
No surface left , pot holes & uneven surface due to tree roots.
When no street lights on at night it is very dangerous to see safely

    Thank you
