Young people put questions about Covid to our panel of experts last night. You can watch the briefing here.

Here are some of the questions that were asked, watch the briefing to hear the answers.

Charlie, 15, asked ‘How are you maintaining social distancing in public spaces, shops and parks across Dorset? The panel gave details of the work being done to help businesses follow the rules and also talked about our Covid Marshals.

Olly, 18, asked ‘How do you plan on helping the young people who have developed mental health problems during the pandemic?’ The panel gave details of work being done including the Wellbeing for Education Programme for schools and colleges. In Dorset this work is being co-ordinated by the council’s Educational Psychology Team and Public Health.

Emotional support and mental health wellbeing advice for young people is available through Young Minds and Kooth.

Other questions looked at the vaccine, bereavement support and work being done by the exam boards and the government so young people are not disadvantaged by their circumstances during the pandemic.

On the panel were Theresa Leavy, Dorset Council Executive Director for Children’s Services, Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, Dr Forbes Watson, Lead GP and Chair of the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group for Dorset, Miriam Leigh, Principal Educational Psychologist at Dorset Council and Rachel Partridge, Assistant Director of Public Health.
