The consultation on Dorset Council Local Plan ends on 15 March. The plan, once adopted, will guide decisions on planning applications in Dorset until 2038.
Cllr David Walsh, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for planning said:
“I am very pleased and encouraged by the number of people engaging and commenting on the Dorset Council Local Plan. If you haven’t responded yet, there is still time.
“Even though we are consulting during a pandemic, our statistics are showing a huge increase in the numbers engaging in the local plan process compared to previous consultations. We have also had input from all ages and from all parts of the county.”
Dorset Council have found innovative ways to explain the themes and areas covered in the plan, including podcasts that are available online on audio streaming services, and webinars which can be viewed on the council’s YouTube channel. To date the podcasts have received over 800 plays and there have been more than 5,000 views of the webinars. We’ve also had over 34,000 people viewing our webpage.
Displays in the windows of empty shops, libraries with public facing windows and Tourist Information Centres in 12 towns around the county offer a Covid-secure way of viewing the information. Paper copies of the plan can be borrowed from the libraries as part of their order and collect service.
Online surgeries have been taken up by groups including Weymouth Town Council, Gillingham Town Council, Charminster Parish Council, Dorchester Civic Society, Swanage Town Council, Alderholt Parish Council, Sturminster Marshall Parish Council, Wimborne Town Council and the CPRE.
A dedicated phone line, 01305 252500, is available Monday to Friday 10am – 2pm for people to call in with issues about viewing the plan or ask questions of the planning team.
Questions asked as part of the Dorset Council Local Plan webinar series were answered on the local plan website so that all can benefit from seeing the responses.
Many people have commented on the plan by completing the online form.
The next stage of the Dorset Council Local Plan production process will be to consider the feedback received from this consultation alongside any new evidence and to amend the plan accordingly. The final draft of the plan will then be made available for comment. This will be followed by submission of the plan and supporting evidence to the Secretary of State for examination.

if the council has money to burn get some proper safe pacements in queens close so wheelchairs dont have to travel in the road
Re the proposed housing estate off Wincombe Lane. It seems that the main access road to the new estate is going to be via Wincombe Lane and I wonder has anyone from the planning dept actually been to Wincombe Lane to see the numerous tankers that use the lane to the dairy and the heavy traffic already using the lane for access to the housing estates already there. The lane itself is very narrow and even if it is widened it cannot be widened by Great Ground estate also the only access to the main road is through Longmead Industrial Estate which is very busy. There is no mention of the primary school in Wincombe Lane and the children will be exposed to even more busy traffic. Is there any reason why the access road cannot be in Grosvenor Road?

Please sort out potholes between Puncknowle and Burton Bradstock before there are huge bills for replacement tyres heading your way.
Almost every element of your proposed local plan is ill thought-out and utterly inappropriate to a small, largely rural county with strong and important agriculture with population centres of small towns and villages. The whole infrastructure of Dorchester is already under strain from the never ending development of Poundburcouncils y. Your plan to build 39,000 dwellings on agricultural land and flood plains beggars belief. Where are all the occupants going to come from to fill these houses? Where are the schools, medical facilities, and other necessary elements going to be built? The various councils responsible for Dorset have an appalling track record of poor decisions, waste and sheer incompetence. This plan is not going to bring any improvement.
I’ve just read a report in the BVM. A Blandford town councillor has said, regarding the ‘relocation’ of Blandford to the South East, that there had been no consultation with BFTC about the grouping and that it had been described as disastrous on the public forum.
It’s about trust, and recent actions by Dorset Council suggest that they are not working in partnership with our local representatives.
