Dorset Council has released the 2021 Activate Coast and Greenspace programme. It will help local people to get and stay active through a range of activities in green spaces.
The programme, which offers activities in eastern Dorset and surrounding areas including Blandford, was put on hold during 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Activities are planned to re-start from the 19 April.
Get back in the Saddle, Nordic Walking and Get into Golf are some of the instructor-led courses available. There are also group-led Couch to 5k, Orienteering tasters and Fresh Air Fitness classes for beginners. For those wishing to benefit both body and mind, Outdoor Yoga, tai chi and mindfulness sessions are also available at Moors Valley Country Park and in Wimborne. Activities will follow strict covid-19 guidelines to keep participants safe, with the added re-assurance that all sessions are delivered outside, enjoying plenty of fresh air. Advance booking is essential for all activities.
The programme also includes a range of free volunteer-led Health Walks and Health Cycle rides within the community. These sessions are planned to re-start in May with restrictions, although it is likely that some locations may start later than others. Booking will be essential for these sessions which were previously just turn up.

Great program but are there any plans to offer activities in West Dorset or Weymouth and Portland. These areas always seem to miss out and there is very little on offer for people who are not retired.
These activities look amazing. I’m just gutted I live in Weymouth and there is nothing being offered in the Weymouth & Portland area.
Doesn’t include any part of Dorset west of Blandford, or any coast. How does Dorset Council support health activities local to these areas?
Please can you explain why this programme still only covers East Dorset when the council is now funded by tax payers across the whole of Dorset?
