Work to install this summer’s temporary measures on Custom House Quay in Weymouth will start on Monday 22 March.
This temporary layout will support the reopening of hospitality businesses in the area.
Custom House Quay will be closed on Monday 22 March, Tuesday 23 March and Wednesday 24 March to allow access for machinery needed to plane and surface the parking bay area, as well as for a drilling rig to prepare for wooden bollard installation and for lining works to mark out the road edge.
Work on this side of the harbour should be finished by Thursday 1 April.
As part of these temporary measures, there will be no parking available on Custom House Quay from 22 March through to the end of the summer. Loading bays will be available for harbour vessels and businesses.
The road will remain open to traffic – there are no plans to pedestrianise Custom House Quay, this was an emergency temporary measure in place to help social distancing in summer 2020.
On the south side of the harbour, following on from comments received about Trinity Road last summer and in discussion with businesses on this side of the harbour, sitting out areas will be provided on the highway but there will be no restrictions for drivers this year.
Additional outside seating will be in place at Nanna Moon’s, the Kings Arms and Bennett’s Fish and Chips – these will be marked out during the week of Tuesday 6 April. Parking and access for vehicles will remain unchanged, this temporary layout will cause minimal disruption.
