Celebrate National Care Leavers’ Week with us

Join us in celebrating National Care Leavers’ Week (Monday 25 October – Sunday 31 October 2021). Book a spot on our webinar to find out how you can help to support Dorset’s care leavers.

Our Care Leaver’s service currently supports over 260 young people aged 18-25 within the Dorset Council area. Many of our care leavers face the challenges of pursuing their studies or finding employment, while developing life skills, often without the support that other young people receive from family and friend networks.

Earlier this year, Dorset Council joined the national Care Leaver Covenant, a promise made by the private, public and voluntary sectors to provide support for Dorset’s care leavers. We are now asking for our wider community to consider the ways in which they can also lend their support.

During National Care Leavers’ Week, we will be a hosting a virtual seminar on Monday 25 October from 4pm-4.45pm. Join us to find out more about what it means to sign up to the Care Leaver Covenant and how your organisation could make a difference to those leaving our care.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help said; “We are encouraging local businesses and organisations to consider how you could be part of Dorset’s initiative to give the best support to those leaving our care. From work experience and training opportunities, to discounts on services and access to cultural or sporting events – there are so many ways that you can lend your support to our care leavers. Join us on Monday at 4pm to find out more.”

We will be recording the seminar for those unable to attend on the day. If you would like to find out more about the Care Leaver Covenant, or would like to request the recording, please contact Susan Holden. Email: susan.holden@dorsetcc.gov.uk
