Councillor Spencer Flower’s reaction to the Chancellor’s budget announcement

Cllr Spencer Flower has reacted to the Government’s budget announcement today (27 October). Cllr Flower said:

“The financial announcement made today by the Chancellor, goes some way to acknowledging the budget pressures many local councils have been under in recent years and the economic recovery we all face, in a post-pandemic world.

“Discounted business rates for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses will help the continued recovery of thousands of Dorset businesses which were hit hard throughout the pandemic and in addition, the Chancellor’s promise to invest in young families, schools, SEND provision and housing is most welcome.

“However, we still await details of the investment needed for adult social care that recognises the very real demographic challenge we face here in Dorset, without which our council budgets will continue to be put under increasing pressure. I look forward to hearing further details very soon and understanding what this means for Dorset Council, as it becomes available from Government.”
