Dorset Council will shortly begin demolition of the Pippins building in Wimborne.
We no longer need this property. It is in poor condition and has suffered constant break-ins and vandalism since it was vacated. Its demolition will allow the site to be redeveloped, although no decision on its future use has been made at this time.
We are proposing that a conifer tree at the front of the site is removed on 5 November 2021, as well as the pruning of several other trees, allowing demolition to begin. All other trees on the site will be kept and protected during the works, which will be supervised by an Arboriculturalist.
Asbestos removal from the building will be undertaken in late January 2022, and we are in the process of disconnecting utilities.
It is currently proposed to start the main demolition work at the beginning of February 2022, with all works to be completed before the end of March 2022. This is subject to obtaining statutory consents, and all such parties have received prior consultation regarding this scheme.
During the demolition works, there will be some need to install temporary traffic lights on Hanham Road periodically to permit safe working and access to the site. Dates for such measures will be confirmed in advance.
what a waste shurly it could’ve used as a community center
Could the space be used for a meeting place for the elderly for chat/coffee etc. similar to that offered at a couple of churches. Perhaps it could also house a section for reduced/free toe nail cutting/ear wax removal for the elderly. (I believe many years ago there was something similar there). Now that doctors will not offer ear wax removal and the cost of having it done elsewhere is very expensive i think this would be well used and would be a wonderful service to provide.
Why this obsession with cycle lanes? I rarely see them being used they still cycle in the road. WIMBORNE ROAD from Canford Bottom where cyclists have a wider road than Cars, I have see on my many journeys to WIMBORNE one cyclist on it and one in the road. Millions of wasted Pounds. Which could be spent on road sweeping etc, which brings me to my street which hasn’t been swept since April, the road is covered in leaves and blocking drains threatening to flood my garden.the pavements are traitorous for us elderly several over 90 and the rest of us in our 80 ‘s these leaves are not Our trees but trees belonging to the Atrium. If I slip and break anything you will be hearing from my Solicitor.
Pamela – The demolition of Pippins is not related to any cycling lanes currently being constructed. Please report any street that requires sweeping via https://dorset-self.achieveservice.com/service/DWP_Report_for_Mechanical_Road_Sweeper – Thank you, James
James,
Now you know about the street that needs sweeping, why don’t you report it – the lady above already has – to you.!
The lady didn’t state the name of the road, otherwise we would indeed report it – James
The (much needed) cycleway is still unfinished. That’s why some cyclists stay on the road rather than hopping on and off the cycleway and doing battle with the temporary fencing.
The expenditure on the cycleway is a one-off investment. Road sweeping is a repeating expenditure and the money comes out of a different pot.
We need to invest in active travel to help towards tackling climate change. The more safe cycle routes exist, the more they will be used.
what will happen to the site once the building has been removed? Will there be any impact on the Hanham Centre next door?
No decision has been made on the future of the site yet June, but we don’t expect there to be any impact on the Hanham Centre.
