A Gillingham footway/cycleway under reconstruction is set to be surfaced this week.
Work started in October to rebuild the path between the Peacemarsh area of Gillingham and Milton-on-Stour C of E Primary School but final surfacing was delayed due to subcontractor resourcing issues.
The footpath will be closed for surfacing works on Friday 19 November, Saturday 20 November and Sunday 21 November, it will reopen in time for the school run on Monday 22 November.
The well-used path has been in need of repair for a number of years – with deep cracking, due to movement in the ground, causing a hazard for users.
As part of the work, the path has been widened to 3m to allow bicycles to safely pass and the foundations of the path have been widened to 3.5m, which will ensure the rebuilt path is stabilised and compacted to assist carrying weight of the tractor that cuts the hedges.
The treatment to rebuild the path has recycled the existing material into foundations for the new surface.
Verges will be reseeded alongside the new, wider path and all barriers and seats will be put back in place.
The path had originally been programmed to be complete during the October half term, this was postponed to December due to resourcing issues and has now been brought forward to November.
