A31 National Highways project

The A31 eastbound on-slip at B3081 Verwood Road remains closed.

Drivers are signed to travel west on the A31 & use the Ashley Heath Roundabout to access the eastbound carriageway.

This will provide National Highways with a safe working space while preparation work continues for the A31 road widening and bridge replacement, which will start in earnest in the New Year.

All planned road works can be found online.

Please use our online form to report road-related issues/damage. This goes directly to the local community highways officer for assessment.

  1. THE ROAD FROM BURTON BRADSTOCK TO SHIPTON GORGE IS IN A TERRIBLE STATE. THE WORST IS FROM “THE COT” TO “NORBURTON LODGE”, A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 200 METRES.

  2. 1. When will Dorset Council address the poor parking at the top of Babylon Hill where bicycles and off road motorbikes congregate to use the piece of woodland that runs down to the Matalan car park. Many of these motorcycles are off road machines that are used on the road, illegally (no plates) where golfers cross.
    2. The A30 that leads to the roundabout where Somerset begins gets very clogged up. So many drivers try to beat the queues by travelling in the outer lane. All this does is cause a bottleneck at the roundabout. Perhaps causing a reduction to one lane as entry to the roundabout may stop the bottleneck and accidents.

    1. Hi Tony, thanks for your comments – I’ve passed them on to the highways team in the area for consideration.

  3. When will you tell us what you are doing to minimise the impact of the forthcoming A31 “improvements” on the inevitable traffic jams at the Ashley Heath roundabout and the surrounding (Dorset) area?
