Have your say about Dorset’s town and parish council areas

A public consultation is underway to ensure Dorset’s town and parish councils continue to reflect the communities they represent.

From Monday 28 February, people can give their comments and have their say on the Dorset Council’s draft recommendations in respect of:

  • Changing the parish/town boundaries
  • Changing the number of parish or town councillors
  • Changing your town or parish council’s name
  • Dividing your parish/town council into wards
  • Grouping with other town/parish councils

This is the second part of the Community Governance Review public consultation which is open until 23 May 2022.

You can view the initial submissions received from town and parish councils as well as other organisations and members of the public on the website.

Following consideration of the submissions made, a report of draft recommendations was considered and agreed by Full Council on 15 February 2022.

Cllr Spencer Flower, Leader of Dorset Council, said: “Town and parish councils provide and maintain many essential services for their local communities, and are at the heart of our towns and villages.

“Following the initial consultation last year, the council has published a draft report of recommendations which was agreed at Full Council on 15 February.

“We are now entering the second stage of the consultation, and we want to encourage residents to have their say and give us their views on the draft proposals.”

As well as the online questionnaire, paper copies will be available at Dorset Council’s libraries or by calling 01305 251010 from 28 February.

The final recommendations will be published and agreed by full Council in July 2022.
