The latest information about the future of the former middle school site in Wareham will be shared with residents at a Purbeck Gateway engagement event, led by Dorset Council, next month.
The council’s Building Better Lives team will be joined by Doctor Alastair Ward from Wareham Surgery, plus local councillors, Beryl Ezzard and Ryan Holloway, between 9am and 1pm on Saturday, 13 August, 2022.
Visitors to the Purbeck Gateway stand – situated in the middle of Wareham Market, on Wareham Quay – will be able to learn about:
– affordable, purpose-built, specialist accommodation for local people
– an update on Wareham GP surgery
– headline results from the recent Worgret Road Playing Fields survey
Purbeck Gateway is the working title for an exciting development project in Wareham. The vision for the project is a community-focused development, incorporating primary health care facilities, social care support services and accommodation for all ages, affordable housing, and public green spaces and leisure facilities.
Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, Cllr Graham Carr-Jones said: “The Purbeck Gateway scheme on Worgret Road is going to be such a great addition to the town; benefiting the people of Wareham and the surrounding area for years to come.
“A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes since the height of the pandemic to take the development forward and we are really pleased to be at a stage now where we can talk to people in-person about housing and health facilities which will make such a positive difference to many people’s lives.”
Dr Alastair Ward, from Wareham Surgery, added: “Wareham Surgery is in discussions with PHP, a third-party developer, to design and build a new surgery for Wareham.
“No plans have been drawn as yet or planning permission sought, but negotiations are starting between Dorset Council, PHP and Wareham Surgery, for premises on the front of Worgret Road.
“Once some initial plans for the surgery have been drawn, there will be extensive stakeholder and public consultation to develop plans further.”
Councillors Ryan Holloway and Beryl Ezzard will be on-hand to discuss Purbeck Gateway and other matters.
