Dorset set to mark Remembrance Day

Dorset Council will remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to secure and protect our freedom at the annual Remembrance service, on Armistice Day, Friday 11 November, 10.40 am, outside County Hall, Dorchester.

The service will commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women involved in the two world wars and later conflicts.

The Armed Forces Community, veterans and residents are invited to join the ceremony and mark their respect.

You can also watch the livestream of the service from our Facebook page.

The service will be led by Revd John Yarrien, and the introduction will be read by Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council before the wreaths will be laid.

The bugler Elizabeth A. Carter, Musical Director, Durnovaria Silver Band, will be in attendance and the Lord Lieutenant Angus Campbell and Captain Sanjeev Rai, Queen’s Gurkha Signals will read the Exhortation and Kohima respectively, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.

Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council, said:

“This is one of the most poignant dates in our calendar where we remember the sacrifices our brave men and women made in the two world wars and in later conflicts. We also remember and give thanks to those who continue to give their lives to keep us safe.

“Everyone is welcome to take part and pay their respects …Lest we forget”
